Applications are now being accepted for the Health Educator/Sexuality
and Peer Education Coordinator position at the McKinley Health Center,
University of Illinois.

McKinley Health Center aims to provide high-quality ambulatory
healthcare and health education to students and medical expertise to
University leadership. The Center is also accredited through the
Accreditation Associate for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Employees at
MHC are required to provide proof of certain immunizations according to

Our staff works on campus with an academically talented and ethnically
diverse student population, including international students totaling
22.2 percent of the total student population, 18.8 percent for Asian
American students, 11 percent for Latinx/e students, 5.0 percent for
African American students, and 3.2 percent for multiracial students,
with a total enrollment of over 56,000 students.

Job Summary

The Health Education Unit plays an integral role in meeting the
Universitys commitment towards health promotion. As part of the
student health center, the unit provides a wide variety of Health
Education programs and services to UIUC students. By practice, Health
Educators at MHC are expected to utilize variety of settings to teach,
advise, educate, counsel and mentor our student clients – when needed,
serve as guest lecturers. The health education unit at MHC consists of
health educators in the areas of sexuality, drugs/alcohol, fitness,
nutrition, patient education, stress management, and cross-cultural
health, under the direction of the Director of Health Education.

Duties & Responsibilities

Consulting/Advising

– Provide individual teaching instruction and counsel to students on
matters related to sexuality and sexual health.
– Consult with and provide information to appropriate MHC on matters
related to sexuality education of referred students, including
medical record documentation. Refer students, when appropriate, to
campus or community agencies, medical facilities etc.
– Consult with the Womens Health Unit on the development of their
units health education sexual health materials including
teaching/education on; birth control methods/education, pregnancy
test education and referral Issues.
– Consult with Health Educators, Womens Health and other MHC Units
in the teaching/development of sexuality education materials and
effective teaching/advising methods.
– Consult with Student Affairs, academic units, and other appropriate
local health agencies on sexual and peer related activities.
– Serve as a source of providing education/information for students,
staff and faculty on matters related to sexual health and peer
related programs.
– Consult and maintain ongoing communication in sexual health, peer
programs with other institutions of higher education including
community units.
– Coordinate and advise Health Education Peer related groups in
conjunction with appropriate Health Educators.
– Assist with staff education/training for Student Affairs, training
of trainers for MHC Wellness Student Peer Leaders and serve on
appropriate MHC, campus and local committees.
– Participate in national, state and local conferences and meetings
and share information with Health Education Unit and MHC staff as
appropriate
– Develop or locate appropriate sexu l health and peer related
educational materials for teaching/advising related responsibilities
and act as a resource person for the Health Education Unit and MHC.
– Coordinate and Supervise the Health Advocate program and train
Teaching Assistants (TAs) for the Health Advocates and
Sexuality/Peer programs. The TAs will be assisting the Coordinator
with teaching/lecture related requests mostly from Residence Halls,
Sororities, Fraternities and from Campus RSOs.

Programming

Develop, coordinate and evaluate sexuality education programs that are
designed to promote healthy lifestyle decisions. Formats include
teaching, advising and promoting illness prevention programs on sexual
health to students in residence halls, Greek houses, club and ethnic
group organizations, guest lectures, organize special events, displays
and create educational materials.

Coordinate the Peer Education programs within the Health Education Unit
by facilitating ongoing communication between Health Educators and
maintaining consistency with regards to marketing student recruitment,
curriculum development/evaluation and setting up teaching plans with
campus academic units and Sororities/Fraternities.

Develop and coordinate programs on sexual health related issues
including handouts, flyers, posters and other related materials.
