Assistant Coordinator – Public Education Programs

The Fire Safety Division supports communities and local fire departments through enforcement, statutory regulation, investigation, data analysis and public education. The Assistant SAFE Coordinator is an integral part of the Fire Data and Public Education Unit providing fire departments, firefighters, and other community members with the support they need to further fire safety education and prevention. This part-time contract (12 hours) position will serve as a liaison between fire departments and DFS to facilitate public education programs, SAFE and Senior SAFE grants, and developing and leading public education initiatives. Duties: Serves in an administrative capacity to support the program coordinator. Support, receive, and review of all SAFE and Senior SAFE grant program applications and reports. Assist and communicate with fire departments regarding their SAFE grant programs and public education outreach issues pertaining to the grant(s). Develop and conduct training sessions for public educators. Provide local fire and life safety educators with technical assistance. Develop, compile and write reports pertaining to SAFE and Senior SAFE grant programs. May be assigned to represent the DFS at scheduled events, such as public education events, home shows, graduations, award ceremonies, or similar planned occasions. Other administrative duties as may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Four years experience as a DFS employee, a firefighter, a MA Hazardous Material Technician, or in a fire prevention or fire service leadership position. Specialty Requirements: Two years experience implementing fire safety education programs from within the fire service Completion of National Fire Academy Public Fire Education programs and/or MA Public Fire and Life Safety Educator Course or Completion of Instructor I Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrates ability in speaking and writing skills. Basic computer skills including Microsoft and Excel Ability to conduct training sessions and facilitate discussion groups. Keep accurate records.
