MAINTENACE ENGINEER – AUTOMATION & CONTROLS

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE MAINTENACE ENGINEER – AUTOMATION & CONTROLS

Improves reliability of the physical assets by eliminating failures through development of a sound proactive maintenance strategy, analysis of failure causes, recommending design enhancements, and developing improved repair methods.
Responsible for the reliability and failure minimization of all equipment in the respective area to which he/she is assigned.
Investigates and resolves difficult root cause failure analysis to prevent failures. Leads efforts to improve system reliability such that production output is maximized.
Drives PdM with all new equipment installations and processes in their respective areas of responsibility. Maintains appropriate records and files to permit meaningful control analysis and reporting of results or completed work.
Originates and develops analysis methods for determining maintenance demands and reliability of components, equipment and processes.
Analyzes, prepares diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations, and reports of downtime data and provides recommendations for reducing outages.
Determines the manpower/equipment/reliability required to resolve the downtime situation considering cost limitations for equipment up/down time, repair/replacement costs, weight, size and availability of materials/equipment and makes recommendations. Determines the cost advantage of alternatives for developing action plans to comply with internal/external customer demands for reliable processes/equipment to avoid failures.
Provides in-house consulting activities to advise and council personnel on a variety of complicated processes/procedures supported by detailed calculations and guided by cost effective decisions and recommendations.
Identify and establish precision maintenance and repair techniques and trains others to promulgate the concepts across the organization. Represents the company in outside discussion and technical forums.
Conducts and directs engineering research and development projects of significance which are difficult and complex in nature. Designs and develops new and unique repair and engineering methods and procedures, special equipment, innovative test procedures, special analysis of failure techniques, and communicates these advanced concepts through detailed reports used in the supervision and education of reliability engineers and craft personnel.
Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE MAINTENACE ENGINEER – AUTOMATION & CONTROLS
Four year college degree in an Engineering discipline preferred, High School diploma required.
Five years experience in an engineering or maintenance support position.
Effectively manages small projects or sub-teams, including coordination of resources outside of own area. Forecasts and plans resource requirements for small projects or sub-teams.
Monitors and controls costs within own work and may manage costs for small projects or areas.
Advanced engineering knowledge from several different disciplines Knowledge of the existing manufacturing systems including the computer systems, steel making processes, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems and process control techniques. Practical understanding of engineering principles standards, methods and practices. Knowledge of disciplined problem-solving methods.
