No two days are the same! Crofton is seeking Marine Painter to join our team.

The Marine Painter is directly responsible for preparing surfaces and applying coatings to boats, vessels and marine structures. The Marine Painter prepares wood, fiberglass, and metal surfaces for painting, and paints parts, equipment, interiors, and exteriors of ships, boats, and shipyard and marina buildings, using brushes, spray guns, and rollers; mixes solvents according to formula, and immerses parts in solution or washes surfaces to remove grease, rust, scale, and dirt. Work hours will vary. The Marine Painter may be required to travel daily with the vessel.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

– Using hand and power tools, remove the old paint and or rust to smooth and prep the surface for new paint and waterproof coatings.
– Must be able to disassemble and reassemble equipment during the preparation processes.
– Fills cracks and holes with patching plaster, putty, or plastic wood.
– Using unique compounds that prevent corrosion or create a membrane that seals the boat or marine structure.
– Applying color and sealant using various systems or tools
– Operate painting or coating equipment.
– Has the ability to brush or roll finishes onto surfaces.
– Mix paint, varnish, stain, shellac and calcimine to the required specifications.
– The ability to spray paint with consistent millage.
– Responsible for post-paint processes such as grinding, polishing, sealing, caulking and sanding.
– Monitor material on shop floor for mobilization and demobilization.
– Maintains a clean environment of work area.
– Assist all team members as deemed necessary.
– Maintain a positive customer service attitude.
– Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

– Must have a valid drivers license.
– Must have and maintain a clean driving record.
– Possesses basic mechanical skills.

Education and Experience:

– Minimum of 4 years practical experience as a marine painter and or proficiency with industrial coatings. This experience must be recent; within the last two years of your professional history.
– High School Diploma or GED
– Experience in Marine Construction is preferred but not necessary.

Physical / Environmental Requirements:

– Must be comfortable working safely from heights and working from a man-lift/aerial lift.
– Prolonged periods sitting/driving.
– Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
– Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
– Exposure to construction and marine site dangers.
– Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
– Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
– Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
– Noisy environments.
– Ability to respond quickly to sounds.
– Able to traverse all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather; this may require walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
