Summary

Assures efficient and effective general management of the laboratorys phlebotomy education and training program through appropriate resource utilization, using appropriate assessment techniques, taking corrective action, and providing essential education and training for phlebotomy personnel. In addition, this role will follow up and assist on training needs within the laboratory and covers phlebotomy needs as appropriate when the lab/site is shorthanded or until a new employee can be trained.

Responsibilities

Ensures that new hires are thoroughly trained using the phlebotomy checklist and familiar with their duties and assignments before releasing them from training.

Verifies that all phlebotomists are consistently up to date on phlebotomy procedures.

Works closely with the Phlebotomy Supervisor to help with competency reviews on new hires and on existing phlebotomists as requested.

Keeps the Phlebotomy Supervisor informed of trainee progress, any employee issues for current status and annual evaluation purposes.

Manages supply of training materials to ensure they are always available.

Performs ad-hoc training sessions with seasoned phlebotomists on various shifts and locations when necessary to refresh on phlebotomy techniques, policies, procedures or to roll out new processes.

Performs all duties of a Phlebotomy Coordinator and/or Phlebotomist as needed.

Attend in-services and continuing education events as it relates to maintain proficiency/competency for policies and procedures or obtaining additional knowledge on existing or new policies and procedures.

Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

Minimum: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

Experience

Minimum: Two (2) years of experience as a Phlebotomist in a hospital, clinic, doctors office, etc.

Licensure, Registration, Certification

Minimum: Successful completion of a Phlebotomy Program or equivalent training,
