Position Summary:
The Cumberland Gap Tunnel Authority has 38 full-time employees composed of the administrative team, the mechanical and electrical teams and 4 operations teams. Operations has 2-day teams and 2-night teams, each 7-member team work 12.5-hour shifts 4 days on and 4 days off. We are hiring a full-time minimum 36 hours per week operations person to work a floating shift that may consist of day shift, night shift or a combination of both. Hours and days to be determined by the Tunnel Manager on an as-needed basis.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Perform high level service and task work to assure continued safe flow of traffic through the tunnels.
- Monitor and manipulate traffic flow.
- Inspect and escort hazardous material carriers
- Perform all aspects of janitorial, ground keeping and basic maintenance on equipment and systems within the portal buildings, tunnels, and appropriate outdoor sites.
- Respond to and direct response to fire, hazardous material spills, medical emergencies and rescue operations as needed.
- Required to complete all safety training as assigned and EMT National Registry within 1 year
Nonessential functions and responsibilities:
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- This position requires operation of an emergency vehicle, thus requiring the hired individual to be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Valid Drivers License, Operator or CDL License, Driving Insurability
- Sense of Sound, Touch, Hearing, Sight, Balance, Ability to Lift 125 pounds
- Ability to work on call, full time, part time as needed up to 12.5-hour shifts
- Available to work days, nights, weekends, holidays and emergencies.
- Minimum High School Graduate or GED
- Ability to work at heights, confined spaces, and wear PPE SCBA protective equipment.
- All Preferred EMT Training is required to be completed within 1 year of employment.
- Maintain records and documentation
Preferred Experience and Training:
- National Registry Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (NREMT-B)
- Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician – Basic License
- Fire Brigade Training
- Hazmat Operations Level Certification
- Vehicle Extrication Technician
- Emergency Vehicle Driver Training -EVOC
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a transportation tunnel environment that includes outdoors in all types of weather from extreme heat to extreme cold, rain, snow, etc. for several hours at a time. The environment could include fire scenes, chemical spill sites, confined spaces, bucket truck and aerial man lift and within elevated noise levels.
