POSITION SUMMARY:
Prepares and serves meals for 25-100 eligible participants at a senior
nutrition site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares and serves food for each meal according to a prepared menu and in a
timely manner, which preserves nutrients, creates appealing meals and
provides sufficient quantities to meet service needs. Uses standardized
recipes and portion control to prevent waste and assure quality. Follows menus
provided, only making changes with consent of the Program Administrator,
then document changes or substitutions on the menu.
Prepares the kitchen and dining area for preparing and serving food. Sets
tables, replenishes supplies.
Cleans kitchen and dining area according to daily and monthly schedule.
Appropriately stores leftovers, assists in kitchen cleanup, and makes sure
all equipment is clean and stored properly. Operates dishwasher and puts away
clean dishes
Records food temperatures daily, handles food according to sanitary standards.
Keeps a daily record of food used from inventory. Ensures all food is being
used before expiration.
Monitors and completes daily meals and money counts. Deposits or directs the
deposit of daily receipts with the County Treasurer.
Informs Program Administrator of grocery needs. Receives and verifies grocery
orders, stores groceries properly.
Orders food based on inventory needs, and after approval from the Program
Administrator.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Handles complaints and suggestions from project participants, and
communicates the information with the Program Administrator.
Assists in training and provides direction to the Assistant Cook and/or
Relief Cook. Recruits, schedules, trains, coordinates and supervises
volunteers.
Attends all mandatory training and monthly staff meetings. Maintains and
follows project policies and procedures manual.
Follows all County policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Current CPR certification or be willing to obtain.
Knowledge of portion control and basic nutrition.
Skill in and ability to learn operation of equipment.
Ability to work cooperatively with and supervise others.
Ability to follow standardized recipes and planned menus and to follow
sanitary standards.
Ability to follow time schedule with limited flexibility.
Ability to positively interact with people, especially senior citizens.

Education and/or Experience:
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential
functions of the job.
2 years of experience in food service, including use of gas range,
commercial dishwasher, food slicer, and other commercial equipment.
Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
Must be able to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
Must have mathematical ability to adjust recipes, estimate food quantities
and portion food, plus check grocery orders and invoices.
Good general health.
Licenses or Certificates:
None.

Physical Demands:
Must be able to frequently lift up to 30 pounds. Considerable walking,
reaching, grasping, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and
carrying objects required.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a commercial kitchen environment. Contact and interaction
with the public is frequent.
