Primary Role

This position can report to any Illinois American Water office location

Leads the cross-connection control program across the state and assists
related compliance programs to continually meet all applicable
environmental regulations. Provides technical leadership on water
quality, treatment, permitting, and regulatory compliance issues.
Implements Company policy on water quality and related environmental
matters.

Key Accountabilities

– Manage the cross-connection control program across the state in
accordance with applicable state and federal regulations.
– Assist other regulatory compliance programs as needed.
– Coordinate cross connection inspections and conduct on-premises
inspections to evaluate hazards and have them abated and/or
protected by installing approved backflow devices.
– Gives technical guidance to operations in dealing with water quality
related issues.
– Recommends treatment and procedures for maintaining approved Water
Quality.
– Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulatory permits.
– Assists local, State, and Federal regulatory agencies during
inspections.
– Responds to Water Quality and environmental compliance problems,
taking appropriate corrective action including documentation to
advise management. Ensures that customer complaint or inquiries are
properly addressed to attempt to resolve any issues.
– Assures that policies, programs, standards of performance and
approved objectives related to water quality and environmental
compliance are adhered to.
– Supports water quality activities related to the Environmental
Management Program to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
are continually met.
– Plan, prepare and control the portion of the financial plan related
to area of responsibility.
– Conduct special projects and prepare reports.

Knowledge/Skills

Knowledgeable of applicable City, county, state and Federal statutes,
rules, ordinances, codes and regulations governing cross connection
control programs, safety compliance codes and guidelines,
backflow-prevention assembly devices, test kits, and repair techniques
and of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Advanced knowledge of water treatment practice is required.

Must have advanced knowledge of water quality and environmental
regulations affecting the business.

Must have strong familiarity with various water treatment technologies
and instrumentation used in the business.
