Overview

Health Fairview is looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank (https://mhealthfairview.org/locations/m-health-fairview-university-of-minnesota-medical-center—east-bank) , located in Minneapolis, MN. This is a full-time position: 10:30am-7:00pm or 11:00am-7:30pm , with rotating weekends and rotating on-call holidays. Experience is not required; new grads are welcome to apply!

The 11:00am-7:30pm position is eligible for an evening shift retention bonus of up to $1,000, paid out every 6 position months.

Testing includes processing, staining, and performing testing using 10 color flow cytometry and Kaluza software. The MLS/MT acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results in the flow cytometry and special heme laboratory. The MLS processes peripheral blood and bone marrow samples, making and staining slides for pathology interpretation, occasionally assisting on a bone marrow sample collection. The MLS/MT works closely with fellows and pathologists to interpret data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results.

Responsibilities Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. A MLS/MT performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The MLS/MT correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The MLS/MT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The MLS/MT participates in laboratory performance improvement activities.

Job expectations include: following established guidelines to obtain specimens and prioritize work, recognizing problems and takes appropriate measures to resolve them, evaluating testing results for accuracy and appropriate intervention, demonstrating understanding of and commitment to Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance Programs, orienting and mentoring new employees and students, demonstrating ability to deliver care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served. Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA ’88.

Possess or be eligible to receive appropriate HHS approved laboratory certification (ASCP or AMT). HEW certification is also recognized. If not certified, must obtain certification within 1 year of hire.
