As the Locomotive Mechanic you will primarily conduct locomotive mechanical and electrical maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting ensuring that all rail equipment needs are supported and maintenance work is completed timely, efficiently and safely.

What you will be doing

Responsible for overall locomotive maintenance

Ensure compliance with all regulatory railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations

Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in diesel engines, air brake equipment, electrical equipment, running gear or locomotive components

Conduct daily inspections and locomotive servicing

Requirements of a successful Locomotive Mechanic

5 years Diesel mechanic experience including electrical

Weld and use a cutting torch to repair or modify locomotive equipment

Familiar with and ability to perform periodic inspections

Interpret oil sample results

Experience maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing EMD locomotives

Problem solve and is very familiar with Locomotive maintenance

Read electrical schematics and troubleshoot low and high voltage AC/DC circuits

The ability to work under adverse weather conditions and understanding that there is a requirement to be on call for mechanical/electrical emergencies on a 24/7 basis

Understand that working safely is a pre-requisite and will utilize provided PPE and employ all defined safe practices while conducting maintenance

Here are some of the physical requirements of this role

Ability to work outside in ALL weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temps)

On call for mechanical emergencies on a 24/7 basis

In good physical condition (able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift)

Physically able to climb up and down rail cars/ladders safely

Potential work sites include industrial rail facilities, remote rail lines, and will require someone who can work safely around this type of environment, as well as ensure compliance to strict OSHA and FRA regulations

Ability to lift and maneuver components up to 50 pounds
