Overview

The GIS Manager will oversee the implementation of software solutions for operating and engineering teams in Con Edisons gas organization. This role involves managing the deployment, development, and maintenance of GIS, GPS and CAD based systems to enhance operational efficiency and decision-making. The GIS Manager will lead a team of subject matter experts, vendors and consultants, to manage the implementation of new software solutions and the replacement of legacy systems to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of technological advancements. Additionally, the manager will also ensure accuracy and quality of geospatial data, as well as introduce use of GIS solutions into business processes.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee GIS projects from inception to completion, ensuring they meet technical, budgetary, and scheduling requirements.
  • Manage and mentor a team of GIS SMEs, technicians, analysts, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and security of GIS data and maps.
  • Facilitate integration of GIS technology with other IT systems and business processes to streamline operations.
  • Lead implementation of new GIS software solutions, ensuring a seamless transition and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Oversee the replacement of legacy GIS systems with modern solutions.
  • Design and deliver training programs to enhance staff proficiency in using GIS technologies
  • Work closely with various departments to understand their GIS needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Present to senior leadership on progress of ongoing projects and associated activities.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience

  • Masters Degree and 6 years full-time related experience or
  • Bachelors Degree and 8 years full-time related experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Six years of experience and proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment. Required
  • Minimum of three years supervisory experience. Required
  • Must have experience in GIS technology, with a focus on the gas, pipeline, or utilities industry. Required
  • Experienced working with consultants/vendors to manage deliverables. Required
  • Experience in leading and facilitating workshops and meetings. Required
  • Experienced in using utility focused software applications for creating engineering designs, facility maps and recording field inspections. Required
  • Experienced in Project Management such as work planning, status reporting, issue/risk management. Required
  • Prior experience with change management efforts or projects. Required
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Required
  • Knowledge of natural gas distribution design, mapping and operating business functions. Preferred

Licenses And Certfications

  • Drivers License Required

  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday
  • Ability to read small print and symbols

Additional Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory as needed.
