GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

The WIOA Sector Strategy Career Coach serves as an expert in sector-related training opportunities offered by partnering community colleges and training providers. This role is pivotal in recruiting unemployed and underemployed individuals to commence training in high-demand, high-wage, and high-skill industry sectors. The Sector Strategy Career Coach possesses in-depth knowledge of various funding opportunities available to customers for completing training activities. They collaborate closely with training participants to enhance retention rates and foster strong relationships with employers and training providers to ensure program completers have access to quality job placements that provide a living wage.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Proven experience in workforce development, career counseling, or related roles, with a focus on sector-specific training and employment programs.

In-depth knowledge of high-demand industry sectors, training pathways, and certification requirements.

Familiarity with funding sources and financial assistance programs available for training and education.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, motivate individuals, and foster positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.

Demonstrated ability to navigate and utilize traditional and digital tools and platforms for recruitment, training support, and employer engagement.

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a passion for helping individuals achieve economic empowerment through training and employment opportunities in high-demand sectors.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Education, Human Resources) required or work experience in a related field.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.

1. Expertise in Sector-Related Training Opportunities:

a) Stay abreast of sector-specific training programs offered by partnering community colleges and training providers.

b) Provide expert guidance and advice to individuals seeking training opportunities in high-demand industry sectors.

c) Identify relevant training pathways and certifications that align with industry needs and career aspirations.

d) Assist individuals in navigating the training application and enrollment process.

2. Recruitment of Unemployed and Underemployed Individuals:

a) Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract disengaged unemployed and underemployed individuals to enroll in sector-specific training programs.

b) Conduct outreach activities, informational sessions, and recruitment events to raise awareness of training opportunities and encourage participation.

c) Build strong relationships with WIOA Career Coaches and High School Career Coaches to provide a soft landing in high demand, high wage, and high skill training.

3. Knowledge of Funding Opportunities:

a) Understand the different funding sources available to customers for completing training activities, including WIOA funds, scholarships, grants, and financial aid.

b) Assist individuals in navigating the funding application process and accessing available resources to support their training endeavors.

4. Retention Support for Training Participants:

a) Provide ongoing support and guidance to training participants to enhance retention rates and ensure program completion.

b) Address barriers and challenges that may arise during the training process, offering solutions and resources to overcome obstacles.

5. Employer and Training Provider Relationships:

a) Cultivate strong relationships with employers and training providers to facilitate quality job placements for program completers.

b) Collaborate with industry partners to ensure training programs are aligned with current workforce needs and industry standards.

c) Advocate for training participants to employers, highlighting their skills, qualifications, and readiness for employment.
