Connecticut College invites applications for the Harold F. Wiley Postdoctoral Fellow in Artificial Intelligence. This is a unique and dynamic opportunity to lead a transformative initiative aimed at integrating AI into the liberal arts. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty, students, and staff to enhance teaching, research, and outreach efforts related to AI.

The fellow will report to the Director of Research Support & Curricular Technology within Library & Information Technology and will be co-located with library staff dedicated to instructional technology and digital scholarship. The College will match the fellow with a faculty mentor in an appropriate discipline to ensure that they continue to be engaged with their scholarly interests and assess appropriate career opportunities. This is a two-year position to help jumpstart our AI efforts across campus. Please note that unlike research fellowships that offer opportunities for fellows to pursue an independent research agenda, this will be the secondary focus of their work.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Coordination:

Lead the “Conn AI: Integrating AI into the Liberal Arts” initiative, coordinating all related activities and ensuring alignment with the College’s strategic goals.

Collaborate with campus academic leadership such as the Dean of Faculty, Director of the Teaching and Learning Center, Library & Information Technology Staff, and other key stakeholders.

Teaching and Curriculum Development:

Assist faculty across disciplines in integrating AI into their courses, providing guidance and support for course redesigns and new course development.

Faculty Development:

Design and conduct faculty development workshops on AI, catering to various levels of familiarity and expertise.

Provide one-on-one consultations to faculty on AI-related projects and curriculum development.

Research Support:

Facilitate student-faculty summer research projects involving AI, offering technical expertise and project management support.

Mentor undergraduate students in AI research, helping to develop their skills and knowledge.

Outreach and Networking:

With support from an internal team, organize and lead an annual symposium on Integrating AI in the Liberal Arts, featuring workshops, guest speakers, and presentations of exemplary projects.

Engage with peer institutions and professional networks to share best practices and promote collaborative efforts in AI education.

Assessment and Reporting:

Develop and implement assessment metrics to evaluate the success of the initiative, including pre- and post-workshop surveys, course evaluations, and research project outcomes.

Prepare regular reports on the progress and impact of the initiative for internal and external stakeholders.

Secondary Responsibilities

Develop and teach AI-related courses and modules, focusing on their application within a liberal arts context

Tertiary Responsibilities

Engage in professional development by attending conferences, seminars, online webinars, and connecting with peers at other institutions.

Participate in the life of the College by attending campus events such as departmental lectures, gallery openings, arts performances, student exhibits, and invited speakers.

Education and Skills

Basic Qualifications :

Applicants from any discipline (with a focus or concentration on artificial intelligence) are eligible to apply and must have their PhD in hand by August 30, 2025. Preference will be given to candidates who received their PhD in the past five years.

Experience:

Demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence and its applications.

Experience in teaching and curriculum development, preferably in a liberal arts setting.

Proven ability to lead and coordinate complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.

A track record of research and publications in AI or related areas.

Skills:

Strong organizational and project management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire faculty, students, and external partners.

Technical proficiency in AI tools and technologies.

Salary Range $90,000 – $95,000.
