Job Summary:

The Registered Professional Nurse – Patient Discharge NICU is responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluation of care for a given patient population with the established standards and practices of Crouse Hospital. This process is enacted through direct clinical practice, management of patient care and general professional duties. In addition, this role will effectively coordinate and complete discharge duties in collaboration with the Neonatal Interdisciplinary team to facilitate safe and timely discharges from point of admission, including but not limited to; patient education, assessment of patients home situation and assessment of medication discharge needs, parent CPR instruction and class facilitation, referrals to pertinent support groups, and facilitation of services with services extending beyond the inpatient status.

Required: Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. Minimum of two (2) years of direct patient care experience in Neonatology. Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at the time of hire or within two (2) weeks of hire. Must have Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification. Demonstrated interest and initiative in learning, as well as ability to teach and work with present and new staff members. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Practice reflects the understanding of the developmental needs specific to the unit.

Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Certification in a specialty area.
