Finite Element Analysis Engineer

Type:  Full Time Min. Experience: Mid-Level Salary Range: $100,000 to $120,000 USD per year

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful applicant will join ATRs Engineering Services Division, working as a Finite Element Analysis engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Division, Indian Head, MD.  Youll have an opportunity to work on world-class military programs that support the US Navys Warfare technology as part of the Propulsion and Analysis Branch.  The applicant shall work with the Engineering team as part of an integrated product team. This role primarily consists of providing Finite Element and Analysis (FEA) for various Naval weapons systems and components.

Duties include but not limited to:

Perform FEA of Naval weapons systems and components

Build or modify computer aided design (CAD) of 3D models for FEA

Analyze and evaluate the structural behavior of Naval systems and test articles

Perform static, dynamic, thermal, buckling and modal analysis of the systems

Produce technical documents and reports.

The applicant shall work on site with the Engineering team with some off-site work from home available on a weekly basis

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

2-5 years of FEA related experience

Advanced degree in a related field is preferred

Experience with the Navy or other DoD laboratories is a plus.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate must have professional ability to apply scientific methodology to engineering problems, and must be a self-starter and willing to learn. We are looking for applicants with a high level of technical/intellectual curiosity and the ability to work independently:

Strong in FE modelling and analysis technology and capability

Ability to perform static, dynamic, thermal, buckling , and modal analysis

Ability to perform non-linear buckling analysis is desirable

Ability to create or modify 3D CAD models (PTC Creo and/or SIMULIA Solidworks)

Ability to write automation scripting tools using MATLAB and/or Python

Familiar with FEA software such as SIMULIA Abaqus (preferred) or ANSYS Suite

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus.
