Animal Scientist (multiple openings)

JOB LOCATION: 14344 480th Avenue, Donnelly, MN 56235 (Stevens County) JOB DUTIES: Responsible for collecting, testing, evaluating, and preparing semen samples in the barn and laboratory for boar stud operation. Specific duties include: (1) Collecting and pre-processing semen; (2) Performing laboratory testing and evaluating semen quality and quantity; (3) Analyzing quality of semen in genetic lines throughout boar population to ensure optimal dosage; (4) Analyzing semen to identify abnormalities and morphology and determine correct extension ratio for proper semen dosage to ensure highest quality product; (5) Adding extension solution and antibiotics to semen to increase quantity and longevity; (6) Reviewing and controlling animal selection and semen collection practices; (7) Monitoring laboratory and semen collection facility environments to ensure sterile environment and comply with strict health standards; (8) Ensuring animal welfare and performing animal husbandry. REQUIREMENTS: Two years of biology experience, including specific experience with livestock reproduction and experience analyzing laboratory samples.
