Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Federal Records Center Program. The incumbent performs various duties related to the delivery, transfer, reference, and disposition of records, and provides assistance to agency customers. Responsibilities The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As an Archives Technician, you will: Process forms and documents to accomplish records disposition or accessioning, and reviews all records listed as eligible for disposal or accessioning. Serve as a technical contact point for specified customer agencies, develop and maintain effective liaison with agency representatives to discuss and advise on established policy, procedures and regulations, and to facilitate resolution of records management issues. Review existing materials and guides for consistency and compliance with current regulations, policies, precedents, and special instructions. Requirements Conditions of Employment The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so. Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel. Some of the work is performed in an office setting, but a significant portion is performed on loading docks or in records storage areas where physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing 15 pulpit ladders, and lifting boxes of records weighing 30-50 Ibs. is required. Specialized Experience for the GS-06 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-05 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience: Communicating with customers and responding to inquiries, verbally or in writing; AND Using systems to locate items and/or using documentation to identify information relevant to a work assignment; AND Applying regulations and policies to accomplish work assignments. Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience: Communicating to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing; AND Using systems to locate items and/or using documentation to identify information relevant to a work assignment. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks. For the GS-05, you must have been at the GS-04 level for 52 weeks. Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
