HVAC Mechanic (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning Mechanic)

The HVAC Mechanic will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, service, and repair of the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning system.

Duties/Responsibilities:

– Installs, inspects, repairs, maintains, and/or services refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment and systems including condensers, evaporators, water cooling towers, motors, air handling units, furnaces, reciprocating chillers, pumps, furnaces, computer room a/c units and analog and digital time clocks.
– Performs skilled repairs on multi-zone systems, related equipment and equipment not related to HVAC.
– Diagnoses, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs heating and ventilation equipment, pumps, exhaust fans, chillers, dryers, compressors, and other mechanical equipment, as necessary.
– Utilizes the building automation system to track building conditions and the operation of facilities equipment.
– Troubleshoots, adjusts, repairs, and replaces defective parts such as electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls, thermostats, metering devices, heater controls and anticipators, pressure controls, safety valves, automatic gas valves, motor controllers, VFDs, magnetic starters, combustion air blowers, switches, and relays.
– Evacuates and purges refrigerants from systems, recharging units, as necessary.
– Maintains records of refrigerant recovery and recycling in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
– Tests systems by utilizing pressure tests, and balancing air conditioning systems; tests joints and insulates pipes of refrigeration, heating, or air-conditioning systems.
– Connects motors to control panels and control panels to power sources. Connects and disconnects wiring from 24 single-phase voltage to 480 three-phase voltage.
– Tests for defective parts and malfunctions.
– Reviews PM work activities and suggests changes to improve the operation or reliability of the equipment.
– Recommends measures to improve maintenance methods and equipment performance.
– Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
– Maintains tools and equipment in good condition; plans and organizes assignments effectively.
– Presents a professional, positive, and helpful attitude at all times when interacting with customers, co-workers, and supervision.
– Organizes all work assigned and completes accurately and on-time all work tickets and required paperwork.
– Maintains effective communication with management, employees, and customers.
– Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety Requirements:

– Complies with and actively participates in the GCR Occupational Safety and Health Program.
– Perform all assigned work safely and reasonably that avoids preventable injury and preventable property/equipment damage to you, co-workers, Customers, the Company, and/or the public.
– Safely performs functions of the position including proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, and wearing PPE as required.

– Monitor subordinate safety compliance, ensuring safety is an integral part of all work activities.
– Take appropriate corrective action (stop-work, remedial training, disciplinary action, etc.) when subordinates fail to comply with established OSH policies and procedures to prevent recurrence.
– Immediately report all occupational injuries, unsafe conditions, and/or property damage.
– Use and enforce the wearing of personal protective equipment.
– Always wear a seatbelt while operating/riding in a company vehicle, or a privately owned vehicle while performing work activities or acting as an agent of the Company.
– Never talk on the phone without hand free option or text message while operating in a company vehicle or a privately owned vehicle while p rforming work activities or acting as an agent of the Company.
– Not be unfit for work due to the presence, ingestion, consumption, or inhalation of illegal drugs, prescribed medications, over-the-counter drugs, and/or alcohol.

Required Skills/Abilities:

– U.S. Citizenship.
– Ability to obtain and maintain base access.
– Submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
– Valid state drivers license.
– HVAC Journeymans License.
– Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
– Proficient in Microsoft Office.
– Not be color-blind.

Education and Experience:

– High school diploma or equivalent required.
– Three years of recent experience within the past five years in HVAC.

Preferred:

– HVAC license.
– Prior experience working on government contracts.
– OSHA 10.
