Have you ever considered the Iowa Judicial Branch as a career path? Now is the time! The First Judicial District has an immediate opening for an Administrative Assistant 1 to join our team in the Black Hawk County Juvenile Court Services office in Waterloo, Iowa.
The starting salary for new State employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. The starting pay for this position is $47,008.00 annually, $22.60 hourly. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant legal experience.
Hours:Monday – Friday 8:00A – 4:30P

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisors and Chief Juvenile Court Officer, candidates will have the desire to learn the complexities of our court case processing system using our statewide Electronic Document Management System (EDMS). This position may occasionally involve travel to other counties in the district.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
The JCS Administrative Assistant 1 will be assigned a limited number of functions and will be
trained to gradually obtain the knowledge and capability of performing more complex duties.
Applicants must meet the requirements in section 1 or 2 to be considered for the position.
1. An applicant must meet the requirements of a, b, and c to qualify for section 1:
a. Graduation from an accredited high school (or high school equivalency).
b. Successful completion of two (2) years of accredited post-high school education in
business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant, social work, criminology, or a related
program.
c. Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court, or legal work, or a
related area with a minimum of one (1) year of experience involving customer service.
2. A combination of education and full-time experience equal to four (4) years:
a. Education: thirty semester hours of an accredited college or university coursework in
business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant, social work, criminology, or a related
area of study equals one year of full-time experience.
b. Experience must be full-time in the areas of business, court, or legal work, or a related
area.
c. Additional education cannot be substituted for the required one (1) year of customer
service experience.
