Job Description:
Responsibilities
Health Research, Inc. is seeking a Central Registry Cancer Quality Assistant to work within the Bureau of Cancer Epidemiology. The Central Registry Cancer Quality Assistant will be responsible for abstracting and processing cancer case information, including more difficult cases. The incumbent will also monitor the quality, accuracy, and completeness of case processing of cancer case reports produced by relevant New York State Cancer Registry staff at all levels; monitor reports and review case processing and tumor consolidation decisions for quality, accuracy, and completeness; review and evaluate samples of cases completed by field services and case processing staff; resolve duplicate patient and tumor duplicates; assist with death tumor clearance activities; conduct audits of reporting facilities; support special data quality assessment and data improvement efforts; and perform other appropriate related duties.
Gathering and maintaining complete and accurate personal medical information in a timely fashion is essential to fulfillment of the NYSCRs mandate, which is to reduce the burden of cancer among New Yorkers. The NYSCR uses the information for determining cancer rates and trends, health policy and planning, epidemiological research (including case-control studies), evaluation and identification of cancer control interventions, and targeting high-risk populations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a related field and one year of relevant allied health experience; OR a bachelors degree in a related field and an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification; OR an associates degree in a related field and three years of relevant allied health experience; OR an associates degree in a related field and two years of relevant allied health experience and an ODS certification; OR four years of relevant allied health experience and an ODS certification.
Accepted related fields are Biology; Community Health Education; Health Promotion; Health Communication; Healthcare Administration; Health Information Management; Health Information Technology; Histotechnology; Nursing; Nutrition; Physical Therapy Assistant; Physicians Assistant; and Public Health.
Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification required for satisfactory completion of probationary period.
Preferred Qualifications
Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification. Completion of college-level coursework in Anatomy and/or Physiology. At least two years of experience performing cancer abstraction and tumor consolidation in a Central Cancer Registry.
Conditions of Employment
Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
