Our experience encompasses virtually every type of automotive test facility, including climatic and driveability wind tunnels; aerodynamic, acoustic, and thermodynamic wind tunnels; emissions test rooms; soak rooms; altitude chambers; engine and powertrain test cells; and electromagnetic anechoic chambers. We not only design and build these facility systems assets but also operate, maintain, and manage these facilities.

We are currently seeking an experienced automotive test technician for the Rolling Road Wind Tunnel in Allen Park, MI.

The ideal candidate will have hands on experience in automotive; Wind Tunnel testing experience preferred.

BRIEF OUTLINE OF SPECIFIC ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prep/de-prep of test vehicles (install/remove wind tunnel equipment and vehicle parts)

Design/fabricate attachment fixtures for vehicle testing

Configure test section and test systems

Install/Remove test vehicles into/from wind tunnel

Execute dynamic vehicle test plans

Operation of complex HMI software

Program, prove out, troubleshoot automated test procedures

Safely and properly operate all test systems (wind tunnel, main fan, rolling road system, dual flow traverse, PIV system)

Operate data acquisition system and perform data analysis and transfer

Monitor real time test and facility data for anomalies

Interface/support customers in the prep bays and wind tunnel (part changes, taping, etc.)

Troubleshooting of complex test systems

Control PCs, PLCs, Test Instrumentation, DAS software, Load Cells

Author, edit, refine DAS configuration files for testing

Receive and release test vehicles

Accurate status of vehicles and facility in laboratory management system

Install and remove camouflage from test vehicles

Wash vehicles as necessary

Support facility maintenance and cleaning activities

Move test vehicles around the facility as required (drive and/or PMHV use)

Provide support to other technicians

Work with the team to set daily priorities and goals (test schedule dictates priorities)

Daily communication with on-coming shift (turn over reports, work status updates)

Clean and organize all facility areas

Other lab support as required

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND /OR SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma (Associates degree in a technical area of study is preferred)

• 5 years’ (10 preferred) experience as an automotive technician, mechanic, and/or wind tunnel/test system operator.

• General knowledge of automotive parts and general functionality

• General knowledge of basic test methodologies, vehicle service, and hand tool use

• General understanding of fluid mechanics and aerodynamics

• Strong knowledge of computers & interfacing skills

• Strong technical and mechanical aptitude

• Good customer service skills and attitude

• Good communication skills

• Good organizational skills

• Attention to detail

• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, One Note)

• Trustworthy self-starter that can work independently with reduced supervision

Willing and able to follow all safety policies and procedures.

• Extreme (hot/cold) temperatures involved: -40F to 140F. Very limited exposure at extreme temperatures.10%

• Hazardous conditions – What are they?: Energized samples, rotating parts, 50%

• Travel/transportation requirements: Occasional local travel, 5%

Equipment and Machines Involved in Work Tasks (specify and provide % of time required)

• Office equipment/machines electrically/battery operated – which?: Computers, copy machines, fax machines, 25%

• Vehicles, forklifts, etc. operated which?: Low lift and fork lift (will be certified on site), 15%

• Tools used in trade – which ones?: Hand tools, multi-meters, and other electrical diagnostic devices, 10%

Criticality of Attendance (specify and provide % of time required)

• Overtime, regular days, off days: Monday through Friday with occasional over time and weekends.

• Shift, 1st, 2nd, 3rd: Dayshift, but must be able to support our flexible test schedule into other shifts and/or weekends. Potential to move to an off-shift based on demand.

• Necessity for regular attendance: Critical

• Urgency for punctuality: Critical

• Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday-Friday. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary. Must have flexibility of work days to cover weekend testing requirements.

Must complete and pass pre-employment drug screen, health performance evaluation, and background check in addition to:

– Altitude exam

– Power Motor Vehicle Exam

Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to self or others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. Dependable personal transportation to work site is required.
