What You Will Do

The Los Alamos National Laboratory invites you to join the Finance Science, Technology, & Engineering (FIN-STE) group, supporting financial operations, reporting, and analysis for the Deputy Directorate for Science, Technology, & Engineering (DDSTE). The FIN-STE group is seeking a mid-career financial business analyst to provide financial support to the Inorganic, Isotope, and Actinide Chemistry (C-IIAC) group and the LANL Isotope Program (IP). C-IIAC contributes to national research and mission needs related to nuclear energy, renewable energy and medical imaging arenas. LANL is a key contributor to the DOE Isotope Program which has a worldwide impact as a producer of isotopes that are essential in medical diagnosis and treatment, discovery science, national security, industrial processes and manufacturing, space exploration, quantum science and other fields. The selected candidate will support the financial management of ~$60M in budgets and 65 FTEs. This funding portfolio provides an opportunity to partner with group management, scientists and technical staff, the IP Program Manager (PM), financial counterparts across the DOE complex as well as the LANL IP Financial Working group.

The analyst is responsible for day-to-day budgeting activities including, but not limited to financial report preparation, financial analysis to inform operational decision making, monitors implementation of financial policies, educates customers on pertinent budgetary policy/procedures, cost estimates for funding proposals, monitors cash flow and expenditures against planned execution, forecasts expenditures, and conducts financial meetings with key stakeholders. Other specialized activities may include assist in cost price studies of Isotopes, routine and ad hoc financial reporting to IP Headquarters, assistance on program reviews, provides data for IP audit requests, review of audit findings/recommendations and subsequent implementation, and assist with the Lab Managers Budget Briefing.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Finance/Accounting Experience

Knowledge of financial concepts, including financial planning and analysis, budget formulation and execution, business analysis, and general business operations. Experience analyzing financial data and providing financial guidance and alternatives/recommendations to customers. Experience identifying areas for improvement, including improving internal controls and business process efficiencies.

Technical Experience

Experience identifying areas for improvement, including improving internal controls and business process efficiencies. Demonstrated ability to see institutional perspective; excellent professional judgement and technical acumen; demonstrated strong problem-solving skills in working on projects with variety of complexities. Experience with Microsoft Office tools-Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Excel skills, including but not limited to pivot tables, formula creation and use, as well as data manipulation.

Teamwork/Leadership

Experience working in a complex organization with diverse operations, combined with a demonstrated record of effective teamwork and leadership. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and the ability to interact with a variety of constituents. Self-driven, accountable for individual learning and understanding of financial policies, processes, concepts while obtaining frequent mentoring from group staff.

Organizational Skills

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to independently establish priorities, manage projects, and execute complex business and financial assignments.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 5 years experience; or, the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience directly related to the occupation. MBA is preferred.

Desired Qualifications:

General understanding of federal Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and appropriations law.

Experience with Government Contractors which could include a National Laboratory or a National Nuclear Security Administration/Department of Energy facility

Location: This is a hybrid position that is located in Los Alamos, NM, with the ability for teleworking from a location within a 2-hour commute. In general, reporting onsite a minimum of 1 day a week is required. Telework availability is dependent upon management and customer needs and may change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
