[The Public Utilities Department is actively hiring for an Electrical Instrumentation Technician. The Electrical Instrumentation/SCADA Technician will[perform a variety of technical work in the operation, maintenance, installation, repair, calibration and problem solving of various computer and radio equipment and electrical distribution, service, and control equipment associated with the water and wastewater systems operations.[

– Work involves maintaining and programming supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems throughout the water and wastewater system.
– Work also includes coordination of all control systems for plants and remote sites and maintenance of radio communication systems linking the SCADA system to the plants; installation and maintenance of security systems; installation and calibration of electronic equipment; and installation and maintenance of electrical power supply and distribution equipment.
– The employee works with the plant operators in the collection, analysis and reporting of data from the various facilities.
– The employee is subject to hazards associated with wastewater, electronics, and electrical systems maintenance including working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on ladders and scaffolding, functioning in narrow aisles or passageways, exposure to chemicals fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils.
– Work around raw sewage is also subject to the final standards of OSHA on blood borne pathogens.
– Work is performed under regular supervision.
– Work is evaluated in terms of effectiveness in returning equipment to proper operating conditions and installation of improvements within given time schedules, and overall effectiveness of system performance.

Salary is based on certifications:

– Without certification – $28.70 hourly minimum
– Level 1 Maintenance Technologist and Certified Climber- $30.88 hourly minimum
– Level 2 Maintenance Technologist and Competent Climber – $33.24 hourly minimum
– Level 3 Maintenance Technologist
– $34.90 hourly
minimum
