Job Summary
Under limited supervision, is responsible for general electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, installation and repair of low and high voltage systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Must complete all work in a safe and proficient manner
– Fill out inspection sheets, timecards, work orders and other reports properly.
– Must be able to read and utilize schematics
– Must be able to utilize computers and CMMS systems to complete task
– Must be able to communicate with internal and external personnel to troubleshoot and repair systems
– Must property issue and restock components from storeroom
– Must be able to communicate required material to perform work assigned
– Capable of assisting in the training of apprentices or employees of lesser skills
– Assist mechanics in equipment repairs as directed
– May do greasing, cleaning and inspecting of stationary equipment
– Must be able to train other employees in safe job procedures of electrician
– Must maintain a clean and hazard free work place at all times
– Performs troubleshooting, repairs, and PM techniques on low to high voltage equipment.
– Operates service hoist system in automatic and manual
– Capable of performing electrical repairs in shaft ways
– Performs other related work as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
– G.E.D. or high school diploma
– Minimum 2 years of industrial electrical experience.
– MSHA certified electrician, preferred
– Must be familiar with the Lock Out/Tag Out Policy and Procedures.
– Requires thorough knowledge of heavy industrial/ mining electrical maintenance practices
– Proficient in troubleshooting 3 phase 4160V motor control center troubleshooting, maintenance and repair.
– Proficient in 480V 3-phase and 4160V 3-phase mine power feeder circuits with ground monitors
– Proficiency of reading schematics, calculating wire size and motor horsepower requirements for new installations.
– Able to use schematics and ladder logic to troubleshoot PLCs, soft starts, and other types of motor control circuits. Must be familiar with the safe operation of required equipment.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Works in an underground mine where temperatures in the work areas range from 78° — 100°F. The relative humidity is high in summer and low in winter.
Works on the surface of the mine where conditions are related to weather outdoors, with varying range in temperature and humidity. Environment has a fair amount of noise and dust.
Work areas are generally dry.
Lighting is provided in key areas; however, most areas are illuminated only by a miners cap lamp and/or by equipment lighting.
Floor heave is prevalent and may result in uneven floor conditions. Floors may also be polished by mobile equipment traffic resulting in slippery footing.
Some work must be done around machinery and equipment that is in motion as well as around energized power cables.
