HX5 is currently seeking a Technology Transfer Manager to join our team in Cleveland, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
NASAs Glenn Research Center (GRC) Technology Transfer Office (TTO) is housed in the Office of Technology Integration and Partnerships (OTIP) which is also known as Code T. The TTO supports GRCs science and engineering staff in identifying, reporting, understanding, protecting, and celebrating new technology and technological advancements developed through their research. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
Assist in TTO-led activities. Support development of collaborative efforts undertaken by the OTIP to develop strategic partnerships for GRC. This shall range from technical writing, company visits, coordination with other NASA Centers and OTIP staff and contractors, and, drafting and review of marketing materials. This includes interfacing with the NASA Headquarters Program Executive, GRCs Office of the Chief Technologist (OCT), GRCs OTIP, GRCs Code A, other NASA centers, and other government agencies when appropriate.
Participate in the review of all new technology disclosures received.
Identify and evaluate inventions including comparisons against state-of-the-art technologies and products.
Participate in the monthly technology invention disclosure and patent review process. This requires technical and commercial review of invention disclosures and patents including technical feasibility assessment, market applicability and characterization, and evaluation of commercialization potential. The work includes interviews of inventors, primary and secondary market research, synthesis, drawing conclusions and making recommendations on protecting and commercializing intellectual property. Requires full participation in the evaluation of each invention disclosure received at the Center, whether from contractors, grantees, or civil service for future action.
Licensing Assistance
Develop strategies to enhance licensing of NASA GRC technologies.
Support the TTO in pursuit of potential licensees and business partners to develop and commercialize NASA GRC technology.
Evaluate license applications, including commercialization plans and financials. Conduct thorough analysis of commercialization plans, considering technical feasibility, market entry/accessibility, development timelines and milestones, and reasonableness of financial plan.
Conduct analysis and benchmarking of proposed business terms.
Prepare documentation to justify acceptance of offer or recommend counteroffer, and key points for negotiation (pre-negotiation strategy and memorandum).
Support the Center Licensing Manager in preparing specific negotiation strategy(ies) and recommend license terms for commercial license applications.
Partnership and New Business Development
Serve as a technology manager working to prospect for new business opportunities. Specifically, serve as capture manager for potential licensees of NASA GRC patents, patent applications, and other intellectual property as appropriate.
