Period of Work: May-August 2025
Full-Time: 40 hours a week
Location: Bedford MA and McLean, VA
In Office Requirement: 5 days a week onsite
Clearance Requirement: Will be submitted for DHS Suitability Clearance
The Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH) at MITRE supports the Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute (HSSEDI) FFRDC and the NIST National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) by providing independent and objective expertise to enhance mission capabilities. CSH collaborates with federal agencies like DHS and NIST to deliver innovative solutions and develop frameworks that strengthen national security and cybersecurity infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities:
Collaborate with MITRE mission specialists and engineers supporting sponsors to help design, develop, and implement solutions and technologies to address cyberspace challenges.
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
Perform data wrangling, analyze large and diverse datasets and demonstrate expertise with at least one modern programming language such as Python, R, Java or Scala
Organize and visually display analytic results for further analysis
Contribute to the preparation of comprehensive written reports, presentations, and charts based on research, collection, and analysis of data
Basic Qualifications:
Must be a student enrolled full-time pursuing an accredited degree seeking program in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science or a related engineering degree program and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship
Sustained excellence in academic performace
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience having applied data science learning to an internship or research/lab position
Experience in a customer-facing environment
Demonstrated experience visualizing multi-dimensional data using tools such as Tableau, Qlik, Kibana, neo4j, ggplot2, Plotly, matplotlib, or D3.js.
Demonstrated experience with one language such as Python, C, or Java
Excellent communications, writing, and briefing skills
Skill in applying and incorporating information technologies into proposed solutions
