Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) manages one of the most challenging radioactive waste cleanup projects in the country. Our focus is reducing the environmental risk posed by 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored in 177 underground tanks on the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) seeks a Safety Specialist. This position will monitor, analyze, and investigate workplace activities and potential hazards to support company initiatives within assigned area or facility(s) through review of work packages, surveys, audits, assessments, walk downs, investigations and/or observations. Identify hazardous workplace conditions and removes hazards by utilizing the hierarchy of controls. The Safety Specialist will take effective steps to ensure that workplace conditions comply with applicable federal, state, local and organization occupational safety and health standards, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained.
The specific duties and responsibilities of the Safety Specialist include but are not limited to following activities:
-Apply knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology, and industrial health and safety criteria to identify, eliminate or mitigate hazardous conditions that affect workers, property, the environment, and the general public.
-Apply knowledge of OSHA recordability, case management, working with medical staff and self-insured principles while providing for post-injury/illness support for managers and employees. Have the ability to investigate and evaluate injury/illness events for corrective actions.
-Investigate, prepare, and forward as required reports on injuries and illnesses
-Investigate events and injuries concerning hazards of moderate to critical impact and makes recommendations to prevent recurrence.
-Working knowledge of risk analysis techniques.
-Performs assessments and risk analysis.
-Confirm issue/hazard resolutions for closure of risk reduction activities.
-Provide responses to management inquiries and factual accuracy checks.
-Provide technical guidance to field personal.
-Develop, analysis, and integrate safety culture programs into studies and reports.
-Facilitate conventional Safety and Health (S&H) practices and a variety of complex features into problem solving and programmatic planning where specific detailed objectives are stated.
-Evaluate proposals within a given specialty and makes recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks.
-Participate in TPM (team planning meeting) to ensuring safety and health compliance and best practices during the design of the work activity and document development.
-Observe field activities and provides technical education ensuring that all personnel are performing work in compliance with governing work documents and prevent injuries.
-Perform comprehensive practices of S&H and provides clientele consultation and advice in by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling occupational hazards in the workplace through job scope reviews, walk downs, and general observations.
-Identify innovative materials, systems, and/or processes to enhance the companys world class safety culture through research.
-Utilize comprehensive experience to develop, implement and maintain safety and health management systems and procedures within a specialized field.
-Participate as a team member in the development, implementation, and maintenance of safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.
-Promote compliance with required Experience Modification Rate (EMR), Total Recordable Case (TRC) and Days Away Restricted or Transferred (DART) established goals.
-Prepare and review written programs, job hazard analyses, personal protective equipment, and other health and safety program elements.
-Serve as a resource for line management to develop and administer a proactive prevention program for accidents and illness per company requirements.
-Generate trending reports for performance indicators as requested.
-Excellent written and oral communication skills.
-Proficient in software applications, especially tracking and reporting applications, creating spreadsheets, and developing presentations and reports.
Required Qualifications
Grade 14:
Bachelors degree (BA/BS) in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Grade 15:
Bachelors degree (BA/BS) in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field and One (1) year related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Grade 16:
Bachelors degree (BA/BS) in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field and two (2) years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.
Desired Qualifications
-Understands and applies S&H theories, concepts, knowledge of related disciplines.
-Experience with application of safety tasks in a nuclear environment.
-Working with the bargaining unit personnel, including resolving concerns with mutual satisfaction of bargaining unit personnel and management.
Compensation & Benefits
In accordance with the companys philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidates qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidates prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
Hiring Range Minimum: $71,200
Hiring Range Maximum: $108,513
