Job Responsibilities/Duties

Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is the tank farm operating contractor at the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. The WRPS mission is to safely store, retrieve, and treat 56 million gallons of legacy radioactive and hazardous waste. This complex mission spans all competencies of engineering/science accomplished through a highly integrated organization engineering organization. Engineering at WRPS consists of process engineering, design engineering, nuclear safety, plant/system engineering, construction project engineering, procurement engineering, process and control system engineering, engineering standards/program implementation, and the Chief Technology Office. These areas support all areas of the tank farm mission including Retrievals, Production Operations, Field Projects, Waste Feed Delivery Projects, and long term innovations.

Production Operations Engineering provides a variety of engineering services in support of the operation and maintenance of TOC facilities and ensuring proper implementation of engineering requirements, including: developing inputs, assumptions and design criteria for tank farm facility modifications; administrating the System Engineering program and providing Cognizant System Engineering (CSE) and Shift Technical Engineer (STE) support to facilities; providing resident waste transfer and characterization technical expertise and facility knowledge in support of operability determinations, performance monitoring program, centralized resolution of Structures, Systems, and Components (SSC) performance problems; and providing Maintenance Engineering support.

This position supports the Effluent Treatment Facility (ETF), which is a less than Hazard Category 3 facility that treats and disposes of liquid effluents from Hanford programs and projects. The ETF removes low levels of chemical and radioactive contaminants from various waste feed streams to produces pure water and brine or powered waste. ETF was commissioned in 1994 and is currently installing and starting up new unit operations.

The Electrical Engineer position assumes technical responsibility for multiple systems within ETF. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide electrical engineering support for electrical power distribution systems up to 480V 3 phase and instrumentation systems. Candidate will be required to provide maintenance instruction as well as support troubleshooting of electrical systems and facility instrumentation. This position will ensure that the facility is maintained/upgraded in accordance with applicable codes, standards, requirements, criteria, and specifications and that engineering products are developed in accordance with good engineering practices and that requirements are adequately flowed down to specific work scope. This position will also provide support for the replacement of obsolete equipment and instrumentation.

Conduct site/area visits/walkdowns and investigate engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives and provide recommendations

Develop and/or review Engineering Change Notices, specifications, calculations, drawings, and material requests.

Provide facility specific input to projects and assist projects in setting up operating procedures, maintenance procedures, and identifying equipment that requires preventative maintenance.

Understand and apply common IEEE, NFPA and NEMA industrial consensus standards to electrical designs.

Assist Operations in trouble shooting activities.

Support work package development, routine maintenance activities, field walkdowns, and field work execution.

Interface with mechanical and process engineers to make sound decisions that facilitate optimum overall solutions.

Interface with Plant Operators and Maintenance personnel.

Provide engineering field support during installation of electrical equipment.

Support for I&C Technicians by obtaining control circuit drawings and helping troubleshoot instrumentation loops

Evaluation of process strategies and improvements as they relate to process control, instrumentation, control valves, variable frequency drives, and heater controls

Identification and settings of modern instruments to replace obsolete items

Manage instrumentation spare parts

Develop, review, and approve instrument data sheets, Engineering Change Notices, specifications, calculations, and material requests

Shall obtain and maintain at a minimum an Engineering Technical Staff Qualification Card.

Required Qualifications

Grade 14:

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline

Grade 15:

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline; with One (1) year related experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.

Grade 16:

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline; with Two (2) years related experience.

Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased.

Desired Qualifications

EIT

Knowledge of codes and standards

Experience in a nuclear facility

Familiarity with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, IEEE 141

Compensation & Benefits

In accordance with the companys philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidates qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidates prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.

Hiring Range Minimum: $69,413

Hiring Range Maximum: $105,750
