Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking a Senior Manager Environmental Health & Safety to join our Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Supply Chain organization located in Wilson, North Carolina.

While this role will ultimately support the site operations located in Wilson NC, this role will also be required to support the project phase across both design & construction. For the project design phase, the role will require you to be present with our design teams in the Greater Philadelphia region. Once the design phase is completed, this role will support the construction and operational start-up of the site. For this, you will be required to be on site in Wilson, NC. Based on your current location the hiring team will work with you to determine travel and relocation arrangements. In steady state, we expect travel to be less than 10%.

This function is leading the EH&S organization for J&J Innovative Medicine’s New Drug Substance plant. This consists of deploying, leading, and implementing EH&S strategies, policies, plans and procedures for the campus. Key outcome is ensuring the EH&S team has taken all needed EH&S precautions to assure continuous, EH&S reliable & compliant supply chain, research & development activities, and is continuously improving in the field of EH&S.

Results are achieved through effective leadership of the New Drug Substance EH&S team and through effective collaboration and influencing key leadership teams on the New Drug Substance Site Leadership Team as well as with J&J Enterprise EH&S. All work plan requirements are to be balanced with global and local context. The EH&S lead decides how to convert these into a lean, results oriented and compliant EH&S approach.

The ability is to reach outside J&J and represent the New Drug Substance EH&S team when meeting with governmental inspectors for the site.

Key responsibilities:

Lead and manage the EH&S program for the New Drug Substance plant, including design, construction, commissioning, and operational phases.

Develop and implement EH&S strategies, policies, and procedures based on global and local needs.

Lead a team of EH&S professionals to meet the companys EH&S goals.

Build effective collaboration with internal customers and influence leadership for alignment.

Monitor and analyze EH&S performance indicators and adjust direction as needed.

Engage in the performance evaluation and development of EH&S professionals, and ensure their roles are fulfilled.

Sponsor and coach site EH&S program leads.

Ensure continuous EH&S compliance and improvement at the site, representing EH&S on the Site Leadership Team.

Collaborate with the Innovative Medicine Large Molecule/IM LM Platform for alignment on improvement initiatives.

Drive sustainability initiatives at the New Drug Substance site.

Act as EH&S Lead on US Expansion Projects to establish EH&S structures and processes.

Promote a project culture focused on safety and compliance.

Support various project aspects, including contractor management and safety assessments.

Build and maintain an EH&S network for project support and compliance.

Implement dynamic EHS&S lessons learned from past projects.

Develop and sustain a culture of safety and engagement across J&J businesses.

Coach EH&S staff and manage development plans.

Execute and improve EHS management systems and maintain ISO 14001 certification.

Oversee high-risk work programs and ensure J&J EH&S program compliance.

Provide leadership for environmental compliance, safety, and industrial hygiene.

Conduct EH&S assessments, develop corrective actions, and ensure timely regulatory reporting.

Stay updated on EHS regulations and their impact on site operations.

Review capital projects for EH&S impacts and ensure emergency response capabilities.

Manage the EH&S operating budget.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or another technical field

A minimum of 10 years of EH&S experience

Project management experience

Experience in building, leading, supervising, and maintaining Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs.

Familiarity with federal and state EH&S regulations.

Strong background in industrial hygiene, safety, and construction safety.

Experience in delivering both classroom and virtual training sessions.

Experience in identifying, evaluating, and controlling EH&S hazards.

Preferred:

A Master of Science degree in an EH&S related field.

Familiarity with J&J EHS By Design requirements and J&J EH&S Standards.

A minimum of 7 years of experience in leading teams or direct people management.

Relevant certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).

Experience in laboratory safety, machine safety, and contractor safety program implementation.

Ability to interpret regulatory issues and develop solutions for remediation.
