Responsibilities Serving as a Automotive Mechanic Leader WL-5823-11 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in the Mobile Assets Branch (MAB), Training Support Division (TSD), Mission and Readiness Support Directorate, located in Glynco, Georgia. Typical duties include: Maintains skillsets to conduct functional and performance tests using a variety of test procedures and equipment to troubleshoot and determine extent of repairs and also to ensure completed repairs are made properly. Maintains constant contact with customers to monitor mission requirements. This position advises employees on program goals and objectives, communicates team assignments and deadlines; coaches team members on selection of problem- solving methods; balances workload and tasks among employees; facilitates training to enhance teamwork and team building; monitors and reports on teamwork progress in accordance with established requirements and guidelines; and, coordinates team initiatives and promotes consensus building among team members. While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, you must have had experience, military or civilian, paid or unpaid, of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of an Automotive Mechanic Leader, WL-5823-11. You must have experience performing such duties as reviewing requests for repairs and maintenance of vehicles; making recommending on the technical feasibility of repair projects; determining priorities; assigning work to subordinates; and planning and directing maintenance programs. Working Conditions: The work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from vehicles. The Automotive Mechanic Leader occasionally performs work outside under adverse weather conditions. Position may be continually exposed to dirt, dust, heat, gasoline, and grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. To reduce dangers and irritations from these conditions, prescribed safety practices must be followed and safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses, and filtration respirators must be used. Work may also be performed work in an office environment and at various onsite facilities, with occasional travel to provide technical assistance at the other FLETC training delivery points. Travel may also be required, to attend training opportunities and professional meetings. May be required to start work earlier, stay later than normal working hours, or be called back for emergencies. Physical Effort: The Automotive Mechanic Leader guides and assists with repairs, which often require working in tiring, awkward and uncomfortable positions. Work may require standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crawling under vehicles, and inspecting or making repairs in other tight spaces. Work may require lifting, handling, and carrying parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds (18 kilograms). Occasionally, work may require moving moderately heavy items with mechanical devices or other assistance, including objects weighing up to or more than 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
