Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Tooling Manager who will support the Procurement organization by managing all elements of multi-million dollars of supply-based tooling per assigned commodity through the lifecycle of pre-production, production, and service, including all engineering changes, refurbishment, and tooling relocations. Tooling management activities include, but are not limited to:

Financials, design review, construction, building review, technical guidance, try-out, home line commissioning, buy-off, and build event support.

Assure tooling and process capability conforms to cost, quality, and timing requirements to meet program goals.

Work with suppliers and cost reduction teams to identify and develop cost reduction opportunities.

Will interface with both internal and external customers, with accountabilities to Supply Managers, Purchasing Program Managers, Quality Managers, and Product Development Engineers.

Performs supply chain and logistics functions, such as material procurement, production planning, inventory control, outsourcing, vendor selection and distribution. Creates integrated processes among internal functions (e.g., operations, purchasing and logistics) and outside suppliers. Responsibilities are within the Supply Chain Management function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines.

Responsibilities

Cross-Functional Collaboration: CMT, Engineering, Quality, Mfg, PMO, & Readiness teams

Travel: Domestic & International 25%

Concept Sheets – provide tool cost & timing input support for approval gate requirements.

Readiness – new tools progress reporting or on-site reviews to support launce.

Development of Tooling – process / design & build / buy off reviews and approvals.

Benchmarking – competitive bids, direct sourcing, BCC sourcing, material buys.

Negotiations – with tier 1’s on new tooling and E/C’s, as well VA/VE studies.

DFM – support engineering in design for mfg & tooling cost optimization of product design.

Tooling guidance – at tier 1’s, troubleshooting issues leading up to PPAP.

Technology – improve knowledge base for technology.

Sustaining Activity – manage supplier desk of current production tooling maintenance

Tool Moves – supplier exits and transfer of tooling as well support new supplier start up.

Inventory – track tooling inventory TIM & TAR documents.

Oversee the following:

Purchase Orders – write purchase orders for SBT

Invoicing – approve supplier invoices.

Accruals – open purchase orders aged with suppliers need to be closed.

Scrap Tooling – NSTR process with formal approvals to dispose.

Refurbishment – budgets, CAR creation, CAR approvals, tracking, schedules and banks.

Minimum Requirements

Master’s degree

At least 6 years of technical project/program management experience

At least 1 year of lead experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree

At least 8 years of technical project/program management experience

At least 1 year of lead experience

OR

At least 10 years of technical project/program management experience

At least 1 year of lead experience

Additional Requirements

Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint.

Knowledge of project management principles and practices.

Hands on Design, Build, or Engineering experience with Stamping dies
