Summary:

The Director Executive Recruiting oversees the recruitment team responsible for senior leadership positions for UNC Health. This role will be a key member of the Talent Acquisition Leadership Team, and will design, develop, and implement of a comprehensive and innovative executive recruiting function. The Director Executive Recruitment will own the leadership (director and above) recruiting function at UNC Health, advising on search strategy, proactively developing pipelines, and delivering excellent service. This position will manage a portfolio of executive level searches (VP and above) from initial briefings to interviews and offers, and oversee recruitment for other senior level positions, ensuring the majority of the roles are directly sourced in-house, with executive search firms used for niche and/or difficult to fill executive roles. The individual will have strong business acumen, intellect, judgment and advisory skills. S/he will be able to consult with senior executives through status meetings, providing market feedback and insight to candidates’ strengths, motivations, and development needs. The Executive Recruitment Director is responsible for ensuring active and passive executive talent is sourced through a variety of research-based and networking techniques (e.g., direct channels, social media, internet sourcing, name generation research, relationship building, etc.) to create talent pipelines for immediate business openings and succession planning. S/he ensures executive candidates are led through all aspects of the interviewing and selection process to ensure an exceptional experience. In this role, the Executive Recruitment Director will fill leadership positions with goals to significantly affect cost, retention, performance, and hiring speed.

Responsibilities:

1. Executive Talent Acquisition Strategy : Develops innovative and strategic strategy to meet executive talent acquisition needs. Interprets business requirements and translates them into successful recruitment solutions. Provides an executive search-grade experience and serves as a talent advisor to our business to manage our dependency on external partners. Provides compelling value proposition to potential candidates about opportunities in our organization. Ensures recruitment strategies incorporate internal, external and diversity sourcing strategies.

2. Recruitment Operations : Accountable for the executive recruitment program, interview planning, offer negotiation, executive onboarding, and coordinating with Executive Search firms, as needed. Manages the full life cycle and executive Talent Acquisition team for director level (Shared Services) and above searches. May provide guidance and consulting for other leadership or key leader recruitment. Develops and implements sourcing and recruiting plans. Provides regular follow up regularly to ensure timeliness of the recruitment and selection process. Builds and implements a signature candidate experience for executive level candidates. Interprets both business and HR metrics critical to driving results and ensures their recommendations and work deliverables appropriately align. Develops and implements creative ideas for improving the executive search process and outcomes focused on continuous improvement.

3. Networking & Sourcing : Sources and interviews to create an executive level pipeline of candidates passively seeking a better opportunity. Identifies, attracts and introduces the best and most diverse talent in the marketplace using knowledge of the market; evaluates and prepares background profiles for review. Develops a network through industry contacts, associations and hiring executives to help identify and source qualified leaders. Researches and recommends new sources for active and passive candidate recruiting. Leverages the internet, social and professional networking sites to identify and source candidates. Creates market mapping and research strategy to build and maintain a pipeline of top executive talent in anticipation of future needs; conducts benchmarking and market analysis. Manages executive referrals for passive/exploratory candidates.

4. Stakeholder Management : Develops positive and effective relationships with executives and HR leaders and colleagues, including pro-active, consistent and thorough communication on executive recruitment process, candidates, search activity, challenges, and status. Provides an exceptional, consultative customer centric experience for senior executives, providing market feedback and insight to candidates strengths, motivations, and development needs. Prepares hiring managers and interview teams to understand job requirements. Consults with and influence internal clients while providing a high level of service. Develops strong relationships with current or potential external search partners and external community organizations to create a partnership that yields success, trust, and credibility. Help build UNC Health Care’s brand as a destination employer. Clearly define and communicate processes and respective roles while managing expectations. Keeps clients informed and candidates thrilled. Leads candidates through the recruiting processes and manages the internal steps in a way that provides a best-in-class candidate experience. Manages executive referrals for passive/exploratory candidates.

5. Offer Negotiation : Provides holistic offer analysis, consultation with HR, Executive Compensation, and offer negotiation with candidates. Creatively negotiate complex executive compensation packages. Partners closely with executive compensation to develop an in-depth understanding of the compensation programs and ensure effective communication to executive level candidates regarding UNC Health Care’s unique total rewards package.

6. Executive Search Firm Management : Determine when the need is appropriate to engage a firm, develops and follows process for selection, and maintains preferred list of firms by function and performance; engages with Supply Chain to continuously benchmark the market for best-in-class firm offerings within our competitive markets. Develops and maintains key partnerships with a limited number of external search partners for current and future needs.

Professional Experience Requirements:

5 years’ experience in full-cycle recruitment; at least 2 years of talent acquisition experience at the executive level, managing full life-cycle executive recruitment process.

1 year leadership experience.

If corporate in-house executive recruitment experience, experience working in tandem with external executive recruitment agencies with results in assessing the performance and effectiveness of their services

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Proficiency with candidate tracking systems, recruiting software and candidate databases.

Strong working knowledge of executive compensation, including, but not limited to, short and long-term incentive plans, employee benefits programs, relocation programs.

Immaculate attention to detail and a keen eye towards visual presentation of work product; excellent presentation skills. Organizational skills, ability to prioritize.

Strong knowledge of candidate assessment and selection methods.

Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives, HR leaders, executive search vendors and senior level candidates; must possess strong executive presence.

Ability to influence and advise senior executives and manage senior-level relationships.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; executive presence, negotiation and credibility

Strong negotiation, with the proven ability to close complex offers

Ability to learn market and competitive changes quickly, best-in-class search process, including candidate research and outreach techniques

Ability to develop and lead search strategy on multiple executive searches, proactive pipeline development, and strong service delivery.

High degree of professional maturity and integrity in handling confidential information
