The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the Teacher in planning and conducting the daily program for a group of children in the child care center, including providing a warm, nurturing, and responsive relationship through interactions and the environment with each child.

Salary:

With High School Diploma – $18.00 / hour
With CDA – $19.00/ hour
With Technical Certificate – $20.00/ hour
With AA in ECE – $22.00 / hour

FLSA Status:This is anon-exempt position.

Work Schedule:Monday – Friday, 8am – 4:00pm

This position works 195 days per year, 7.5 hours per day.

Summary
Under the supervision of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the Teacher in planning and conducting the daily program for a group of children in the child care center.

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.

Assist and supervise the classroom activities as directed by the Teacher; assure a safe learning environment for children; assist children with self-help activities; assist with meals, snacks, dishwashing, clean-up and nap time; attend all required meetings, in-service training and workshops and use developmentally-appropriate activities with children at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED with one (1) year of work experience in Early Childhood Education (ECE); or any combination of equivalent experience and education.

Preferred: Basic knowledge of Tennessee Department of Human Services Licensing Rules

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Preschool Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) or higher is required or ability to obtain.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Some knowledge of child development, based on either high school courses in Home Economics and child development or on experience in dealing with small children as indicated by a rating of education and experience.

Ability to relate well to preschool children; to deal tactfully with the public and co-workers; to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions; evidence of emotional maturity and stability; sufficient maturity and good judgment to function in a crisis situation; to keep simple records; to seek supervision and use it constructively.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

MEDIUM WORK – exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work environment is a classroom.
