Responsibilities
Mayo Clinic welcomes applications for a full-time, supervisory Archivist IV position, based in the historic Plummer Building in Rochester, Minnesota. An experienced archivist is being recruited to take an active role in collecting and managing Mayo Clinic’s existing and emerging archival resources as well as supervising an archival team of eight. As a supervisor (~50%), this position will involve personnel management, budgetary and financial management, archives outreach, project management, external consultations, and partnership development. As an advanced-level archivist (~50%), this role will involve identification, acquisition, preservation, and discoverability of Mayo Clinic’s collections, both physical and digital, that document the institution’s history. The archivist supervisor will lead the archival team in the review of archival collection issues, documentation of Mayo Clinic collection management guidelines, and the team’s implementation of those guidelines. The successful candidate will conduct oral histories relevant to Mayo Clinic’s history. The onsite position will report to the History and Heritage Program Manager on the Mayo Clinic campus located in Rochester, Minnesota.
Position Description:
Under general supervision, the History and Heritage Program Manager performs professional-level responsibilities encompassing library science, archival work, information management and information technology. This position may perform work related to archives. The Archivist IV responsibilities may include providing reference, research and educational services to faculty, staff, students, patients, and others. Other responsibilities will include acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, database/electronic resource access in support of the Mayo Clinic Archives system. Archives responsibilities may include collection development, processing, description, digitization, and preservation of archival materials. Staff may also develop catalogs, manage accession/deaccession, and contribute expertise to the institution’s collections plan. May perform other tasks that support services, maintain workload, or provide coverage in the work unit.
Provides input and assists in developing policy and decision making to support the Mayo Clinic Archives system.
Identify, acquire, and preserve Mayo Clinic in Rochester archival collections, faculty, employee and benefactor materials, and institutional records, in physical and digital formats.
Provide reference services, serves as primary contact for inquiries regarding Mayo Clinic in Rochester history, and assists and monitors researchers.
Proactively collaborate with Mayo Clinic departments to advance the management of records and advise on record preservation in Rochester through collection and management of written and oral histories.
Collaborate with other Mayo Clinic archivists to coordinate promotion and access to Mayo Clinic collections and develop resources to support academic study and research.
Collaborate with technical services and digital archivists to develop strategic approaches to description, metadata, and born-digital collections.
Will oversee the work of volunteer staff, students or interns supporting Mayo Clinic archival projects.
Participate in various library and institutional committees as assigned.
Commitment to participate in relevant continuing education, in person or virtually.

Qualifications
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent archival degree.
Library/archives experience, particularly work experience in a health sciences or scientific research library, institutional archive or museum, technology center, or similar environment.
Requires a total of 10 years of relevant, postgraduate professional experience.
For institutionally designated management or supervisory positions, at least 1 year of management or supervisory experience required.
Basic level knowledge in the following areas: information services, information management, instruction and instructional design, leadership and management, archival management, evidence-based practice and research, and health information professionalism.
Expert level knowledge in two or more of the following areas: information services, information management, instruction and instructional design, leadership and management, archival management, evidence-based practice and research, and health information professionalism.
