What Youll Do

 

The Evening Shelter Staff works closely with Shelter Family Advocate to support the shelter residents. Evening duties include unit checks, chore checks, as well as turning units between residents.

 

This position has a social justice component that will require critical thinking around how the external systems impact the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism work and grounding those principles in everyday work, as well as working well in non-white environments and championing anti-racism policy are required job skills and core values. ### Responsibilities

– Evening Unit Checks for cleanliness, safety and program compliance.
– Assure that units are clean and well supplied for incoming residents; includes occasional laundry duties.
– Assists with resident move-in and move-out inspections.
– Organize/Manage donations
– Co-facilitates monthly resident meetings.
– Provides staffing after office hours for shelter activities.
– Implement all work by incorporating the YWCAs Social Justice Initiative by understanding how racism, sexism, classism and other oppressions intersect and are embedded in all institutions and systems.

### Requirements

– Knowledge of social services field and specifically low-income and/or homeless women. 
– Knowledge of domestic violence, trauma-informed care, mental health issues, and chemical dependency.
– Knowledge about affordable public and private housing resources in Snohomish County and landlord/tenant issues.
– Understanding of issues related to homelessness and poverty.
– Must have a valid Washington State drivers license, reliable transportation, and insurance.
– Commitment to principles of racial and social justice.
– Experience working with communities of color.
– Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty.

### Hours, Rate, and Benefits

– Hourly Rate: $21.00
– Hours: 30
– Excellent benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plan, plus generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave plans
– At the time of hire, employees may enroll voluntarily in the Fidelity 403b Plan
– After two years of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the YWCA Retirement Fund

### Physical Requirements

Frequently lifts up to 25lbs, occasionally lifts up to 40 lbs.

Occasionally kneels, bends, pushes and pulls to make beds, and assist with cleaning duties
