About the Position: Serve as a Senior Structural Engineering Specialist, performing biddability, constructability, and operability (BCO) reviews and evaluations of the structural portions of preliminary and final plans and specifications; reviewing and evaluating shop drawings and other contractor submittals; and providing continuing structural engineering support during construction.
Duties
– Performs BCO reviews of the structural portions of preliminary and final plans and specifications for completeness of detail, and appropriateness and clarity of design.
– Reviews the more technically complex shop drawings and other contractor submittals from field offices without structural engineering expertise.
– Reviews the descriptions of changes on Basic Change Documents (BCDs) prepared by other engineers and technicians for technical accuracy and ensures that changes are feasible and warranted.

– Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
– Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a drivers license as operation of a motor vehicle is required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing biddability, constructability, and operability, (BCO) reviews and evaluating the structural portions of preliminary and final plans and specifications AND reviewing and evaluating structural shop drawings and other contractor submittals. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone–no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
