General Laborer

Description:

Under general supervision, is responsible for three areas – sorting paper, operating the bagger/cuber, and stacking/palletizing the product. These roles are done on a rotation basis. The essential function of each role is described in more detail below.

Sorter: Duties include monitoring all of types of paper or alternative fiber for undesirable debris as it moves along a conveyor belt. If undesirable debris is spotted in the paper, the sorter must pick it off the conveyor and place it in the appropriate receptacle. The debris being sorted could consist of plastic or metals. This requires the ability to stretch across conveyor belt and to possibly lift heavy metal pieces from belt. A more detailed list of the physical requirements of the position are listed below under the “Physical Demands” section.

Bagger/Cuber: Duties include picking up empty bag from bag storage rack or from table; shakes open empty bag; bends forward and places the bag over ram snout opening; pushes ram start button to fill bag with cellulose; holds loose end of bag to stabilize bag while it is filling; makes sure bag is properly sealed; and ensures proper bag weight from scale. Monitors that bags proceed to waiting trailer via conveyor line. If any bag is not sealed properly must pull from conveyor belt and dump contents into a “reclaiming” hopper so product can be recycled. This requires lifting bags and stretching. Stacker/Palletizer: Duties include lifting and stacking bales of product on a truck or a pallet in preparation for shipping, and operating shrink-wrapping machine if necessary. All stacking and palletizing are done according to an approved stacking pattern to maximize shipping space. This position requires ability to lift 30-pound bags repeatedly, bending and stretching. Additional Skills & Qualifications:

High attention to detail
6 months of Manufacturing exp
Language Skills-must be able to communicate with line management and other plant employees
Mathematical Skills-must be able to have working knowledge of elementary math to acknowledge correct bag weights
Reading & Reasoning Ability- ability to understand and follow correct procedures while operating equipment and ability to detect incorrect bag weights and seals.

•Wear personal protective equipment
•Repeatedly lift 30 lbs
•Stand for approximately 75% of the work day
•Frequently and repeatedly bends, extends, stoops, stretches, twists and rotates
•Exercise good visual acuity to note adequate bag sealing, and bag weight
•Work around moving equipment keeping hands and body away from all moving equipment
