The Senior Commissioning Specialist will be responsible for executing commissioning and retro-commissioning projects. These projects will encompass new and existing buildings and electro-mechanical systems and ensure that equipment and systems are functioning at the efficiency level for which they were designed to meet the operational needs of the owner. The Senior Commissioning Specialist will work with the project team throughout the commissioning process, adapting commissioning plans to budget constrains, design factors or client needs.

Lead and execute commissioning, retro-commissioning, monitoring-based commissioning, energy efficiency retrofit, and demand response projects for complex buildings and systems in the mission critical, healthcare, laboratory, aviation, manufacturing, higher education, commercial building, water & waste water and on-site energy markets.

Plan, schedule and execute mid to large-size commissioning projects and programs.

Consult with clients and contractors to identify and develop energy efficiency projects from initial identification and evaluation through installation and measurement.

Evaluate HVAC systems with building automation systems and stand-alone data loggers to troubleshoot operational problems and find inefficient control sequences.

Manage on-site testing of HVAC, lighting, power, and control systems in new and existing buildings in conjunction with O&M and contractor personnel.

Evaluate on-site ASHRAE energy audits and condition assessments to identify applicable and cost-effective energy efficiency and demand response measures.

Present energy savings and cost analyses for energy efficiency and demand response measures to implement energy and operational improvements based on budgets.

Present assessments, detailed evaluation, measurement and verification reports and retro-commissioning plans for existing facilities.

Initiate, develop and execute concept designs for energy efficiency projects for sequences of operations.

Manage building energy use simulation for modeling alternatives to capture energy savings.

Consult with the client through the implementation process.

Report measurement and verification of installed projects.

Perform design reviews and make recommendations for improvements.

Manage detailed and accurate project records including data, documentation and reports.

Consult with the client to develop understanding of systems and design intent. Review operating modes, sequence of operations and specifics of equipment, operations, and maintenance.

Commission new retro-fits as well as new and existing buildings.

Develop and refine methodologies, tools, and standards in support of an evolving commissioning practice.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with existing and potential clients, customers and contractors in order to develop business.

Responsible for sales pursuits and proposal development.

Qualifications

Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power & Controls or a relevant field of study. Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

A minimum of 17 years experience with retro-commissioning, energy evaluation complex HVAC, lighting, power and control systems.

Expert experience in evaluating and troubleshooting systems with different types of stand-alone monitoring equipment including flow meters, temperature loggers, electrical meters and other types of equipment.

Strong facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

Ability to evaluate energy-consuming systems and, detect and evaluate efficiencies, quantify energy losses, and determine cost.

Demonstrated ability to develop and manage workplans, schedules and budgets and provide leadership to a diverse project team a plus.

Demonstrated experience in combined heat and power/cogeneration, central utility plants, data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratories, water/wastewater facilities, controls, building envelope, TAB, NETA electrical testing, renewable energy and other specialties a plus.

Expert knowledge with DOE-2, eQUEST, Energy Pro, and other modeling software.

Ability to comply with site safety procedures, including electrical safety.

Expert computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to develop and maintain relationships with contractors and field personnel.

High level of attention to detail.

Certification in the Commissioning Process, as an Energy Manager, or LEED Accreditation a plus.

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients, including, but not limited to DOE, aerospace, military, food and consumer product manufacturers, pharmaceutical, laboratories, and others necessary to sell and complete work.
