Position Description
The Geospatial Data Science Intern for the Transmission Fundamentals Team will develop novel datasets and conduct geospatial analyses to support new transmission and renewable generation projects across the United States and Canada. The intern will work collaboratively with other geospatial data scientists and power system engineers to identify and develop new transmission and generation projects across the United States and Canada.
This position is part of a team performing technical modeling and analysis to identify, evaluate, and support development of new opportunities on the transmission system. Our goal is to identify compelling project opportunities and get them built!
We highly value experience working with diverse geospatial and time-series data along with exposure to algorithm development and data visualization.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with colleagues to create new datasets and tools for broad-scale geospatial analysis to be used to identify, design, and evaluate transmission and renewable generation opportunities
Acquire, produce, and harmonize datasets to support automated analyses
Collaborate with internal and external Subject Matter Experts to design and implement high-impact analysis
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in geospatial data analysis and modeling, ideally including open-source geospatial libraries
Programming skills in Python and experience with Git
Spatial analysis
Cartography experience
Desired Qualifications
Background in geography, environmental science, renewable energy, power systems, and transmission planning
Experience with HPC and/or cloud computing (e.g., AWS)
Job Overview
To be considered for an internship, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Assists department with assigned projects
Completes challenging projects and assignments
Presents final project to senior leadership at the end of the internship
Assumes responsibility for own travel, lodging, and transportation necessary to be available for the program
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
High school grad / GED
Maintain active enrollment in a Bachelor or higher degree program
Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
