Homelessness is the largest social and public health crisis in California. Illumination Foundation (IF) is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and childrens and family programs. IF currently has 13 facilities with 22 micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
Job Description
The Substance Use Technician is responsible for providing adult patient supervision in a shelter or
recuperative care facility and assisting in the maintenance of a safe, secure environment that
enhances behavioral health and substance use treatment while utilizing the harm reduction and
recovery models.
The pay range for this position is $20.00 – $23.00 per hour, depending on experience. This position also qualifies for $1.00 swing shift differential and $2.00 graveyard shift differential.
Responsibilities
Work with a multi-disciplinary team leading site activities such as current events, groups, community meetings, goals groups, fitness groups, activities of daily living groups, and/or recreational activities, as appropriate to the specified patient population promoting safety and comfort in a supportive, therapeutic environment
Assist patients with activities of daily living; attend to patient behavioral problems and provide assistance in crisis intervention, as needed
Track and maintain patient observation, set boundaries on inappropriate behavior, and recognize the need for and provides crisis intervention services to clients
Inform Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor, Manager. or Director, within 12 hours of making an incident report, APS/CPS report, 5150 consult, or assessment and complete required APS/CPS reports within the mandated time frame
Collaborate (on a need to know basis) with including site, nursing, case management, substance abuse counselors, food service and transportation regarding client’s behavioral health needs, ensuring the highest level of client care
May act as a liaison with patients, families of patients, or external facilities and agencies
Participate in the development and implementation of patient treatment programs as directed
Document all client interactions or activities completed on behalf of the client (including collaboration with other disciplines, case consultations, telephone calls, leaving voicemails, and collateral contact) in HMIS, KIPU, and CHAMP according to the documentation standards of the agency and within 48 hours of service provision
Research and build relationships with community agencies for client resources and linkage as directed
Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials according to HIPAA standards
Follow established institutional policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety, environmental and infection control standards
Attend and participate in staff meetings, in service trainings, workshops and other required meetings as directed
Drive to any IF location for coverage, trainings, or support, as directed
Preferred Experience/Minimum Qualifications
Required:
High School graduate or GED equivalent
Must be registered to obtain a Drug & Alcohol Certification from one of the following agencies: CAADE, CCAPP & CADTP
Ability to work flexible hours when needed (2nd and 3rd shifts)
Preferred:
Experience and knowledge with electronic filing system (KIPU & AICA)
Bilingual: English and Spanish.
Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)
