Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and skilledUX/UI Designer and Accessibility Specialistto join our team. This role will focus on designing and maintaining user-centered, accessible, and Section 508-compliant content and features. The ideal candidate will utilize their web design expertise and knowledge of web accessibility to enhance our digital offerings, ensuring they are intuitive, navigable, and exceptional for all users.

Key Responsibilities:

1. User Experience, Visual, and Interaction Design (45%):

– Create visually appealing websites that incorporate effective interaction elements for ease of navigation.
– Produce wireframes and prototypes, contributing to design sessions and maintaining a library of digital design artifacts such as user personas, journey maps, and site maps.
– Present design solutions to team members and stakeholders, ensuring clarity and justification for design choices.
– Apply principles of color theory, typography, and information architecture to design accessible interfaces across various form factors.
– Stay updated on industry trends and share knowledge with the team.

2. Accessibility Monitoring, Testing, and Remediation (45%):

– Lead our website content accessibility program, ensuring compliance with Section 508 and WCAG standards.
– Perform ongoing accessibility testing on desktop and mobile web content, prioritizing and communicating solutions for identified issues.
– Collaborate with designers and developers to integrate accessible content design into the workflow.
– Work with third-party vendors for audits and VPAT documentation, while maintaining accessibility guidelines and best practices.
– Educate team members on accessibility compliance standards and trends.

3. User Research (5%):

– Collaborate with researchers and analysts to leverage user feedback and analytics, identifying content opportunities and friction points.
– Conduct usability testing and analysis to inform content improvements based on qualitative and quantitative data.
– Develop processes to measure the effectiveness of website content following UX best practices.

4. Special Projects and Other Duties (5%):

– Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

– Bachelors degree in user experience design, human-computer interaction, communications, technology, or related field, or 2 years equivalent experience as a UX or UI designer, web accessibility specialist, or similar role
– 1 years experience creating design concepts, hi/lo-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes using Figma, Sketch, or similar tools required
– 1 years working with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) required, Section 508 knowledge preferred
– 1 years working with accessibility evaluation tools / vendors, such as WAVE, ANDI, Level Access, Developer Tools, or others required
– Experience with assistive technology used for testing such as JAWS or NVDA screen readers helpful
– Experience participating in cross-functional discovery workshops, design solutioning sessions, and design reviews
– Experience working in an agile development process
– Experience developing sound information architecture, organizing and structuring content for websites
– Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ARIA
