Lead Teacher

Position Description: The Lead Head Start Teacher reports directly to the Center Supervisor and plans and implements individually appropriate pre-school classroom curriculum and classroom practice. In helping to make the Head Start Program an exemplary agency, the Teacher puts into practice theories and sound principles of early childhood education and recognizes the parent as a full partner in the child’s education. The Teacher embraces the inclusion of both typically developing preschool children as well as those having special developmental needs. The Teacher assures that the curriculum and classroom activities are consistent with Head Start Performance Standards and Federal, State, and local requirements.Requirements: Preferred: A Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education, with one (1) year experience teaching children (preferably preschool children in a pre-school setting). NY State Certificate preferred. Or, a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with two (2) years’ experience teaching children (preferably preschool children in a pre-school setting). Understanding of OCFS regulations and requirements – and will serve as person named on the day care license. Preferred: Bilingual when applicable.
