Instructional Support Assistant – Anatomic Pathology Support

Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Instructional Support Assistant is a valuable member of our team, who provides administrative and executive support and has the ability to interface with all levels of management throughout the hospital. Qualified candidates will demonstrate superior patient care and possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
Duties of a TH Instructional Support Assistant in Anatomic Pathology Support may include the following but are not limited to:
- File, in numeric order, patient Surgical, Cytology and Autopsy Microscopy slides, (including consult cases) and paraffin tissue blocks on a daily basis.
- Retrieval of patient microscope slides from storage (Hospital and/or Tech Park) for review of previous material, Tumor Board conferences, second opinions, additional specialty testing, legal requests and research.
- Packing up slides/blocks to be sent back to originating institutions. A record of the location of original slides and blocks that have been retrieved must be maintained.
- Maintain accurate inventory of patients consents in written and electronic format and perform computer searches.
- May assist with accessioning of specimens, registrations, and scanning patient records.
- Scanning slides.
- May assist with specimen disposal.
Qualifications
Required:
- A.S. degree or in lieu of, 2 years experience in clerical or technical duties in a health care (clinical or research) setting required
- Experience with computer spreadsheets.
Preferred:
- One year experience in clerical or technical duties in a health care (clinical or research) setting.
- Computer competency (i.e. MS Word, Excel) and science education.

- This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.
Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicines Employee Health Services
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as – $44,949 – $55,141.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUHs good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,400 for location,
