Materials and Logistics Technician

ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Materials & Logistics Technician at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry.
Summary:
Provide support to shipping and receiving functions at research facility. Work as team member or independently in variety of tasks associated with operations of facility transfer of material and warehouse operations. Ensure correct receipt and shipment of mail, packages, materials, and equipment items. Execute care in the handling of all items. Works under direction of Buildings & Grounds Manager. Receipt and delivery of mail and freight. Operate postage meter as applicable. Transfer of miscellaneous materials throughout the facility: this includes transfer of freight and materials onto marine vessels, loading docks and into biocontainment access areas. Receiving, unpacking, and routing of materials into and out of biocontainment. Handle and maintain inventory of materials and equipment to include chemical storage and equipment and materials staging. Maintain a variety of logs. Communicate with and notify customers of anomalies in package deliveries or shipments. Ensure proper handling and transfer of all deliveries. Fill and load LN2 tank/trailers.
Roles/Responsibilities:
Assemble, order, and prepare materials for shipment.
Record shipment data, including weight, charged, and space availability.
Receive and unpack materials and supplies.
Report damages and discrepancies for accounting, reimbursement, and record-keeping purposes.
Complete shipping and receiving reports and materials delivery log.
Utilize computer systems.
Operate forklifts as well as light and medium weight trucks.
In alignment with tasks will be required to utilize appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment).
Other duties as determined and assigned by department manager.
Requirements :
HS Diploma or GED. Commercial Driver License class B with passenger endorsement or ability to obtain. Able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Work schedule is subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Ability to obtain & maintain required security clearances and must undergo a required physical examination and vaccinations.
As a condition for employment, all personnel entering the BSL-3 biocontainment facilities at Plum Island shall not be in contact with specific susceptible animals and their premises off Plum Island for a period of five (5) days after leaving biocontainment. Currently, restricted species are cattle, sheep, goats, deer, other ruminants, and swine. Contact with horses, birds (agricultural and pet birds) and rabbits are normally permitted, but restrictions may be placed on staff working with or near contagious agents affecting these species. Restricted livestock or other restricted animals may not be housed on the premises where the employee lives and where the quarantine cannot be enforced.
