A Scientific Knowledge Engineer is needed for a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer. Remote work. This role involves maximizing the value of scientific data assets by defining data models and ontologies, ensuring data quality and integration for predictive analytics, and collaborating with R&D teams to translate complex biological concepts into structured data for actionable insights.

responsibilities:
Define schemas and data models for scientific information to create value-adding data products.
Ensure quality control through validation and verification of mapping specifications to be industrialized by data engineering.
Convert business needs into deliverable requirements for integrating large-scale biological data to support drug and vaccine discovery.
Collaborate with external groups to align company data standards with industry and academic ontologies.
Support effective data ingestion by articulating entry requirements for platform engineering teams and ensuring metadata compliance.
Provide subject matter expertise for translating deep scientific concepts into actionable data insights.
Skills:
Working experience querying relational databases (SQL).
Familiarity with data management/metadata platforms (e.g., Collibra, Datahub, Informatica).
Experience in data modeling, quality analysis, and profiling (working with tools like SAS, Ataccama, Informatica Data Quality).
Experience with data protocol tools (e.g., Avro, Protocol Buffers).
Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python) for scripting and modeling.
Awareness of RDF, ontology, and reference data.
Experience with open-source ontology tools (e.g., Protégé, SPARQL, OWL).
Specific experience with Knowledge Graph efforts and taxonomy tools.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Science, Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, or Computer Science.
Relevant biologist work experience.
5-8 years of job-related experience with a proven track record.
