Day Direct Support Professional: Day DSP Partners with Day Program ParticipantReports to the Day Services ManagerResponsible to the Day Services Director Responsible to the Day Services Division Director Responsible to the Vice President/COOResponsible to the President/CEOPOSITION CONCEPT:The Day DSP’s core responsibility will be to support day program participants to experience personal satisfaction and growth through person-centered approaches. The Day DSP will be responsible to work in conjunction with or in advocacy of the participant to develop engaging activities to promote having fun while building life skills and relationships based on their likes, interests and personal outcome measures within their Life Plans. This position reports directly to the Day Services Manager (DSM). The Day DSP is a part of the day participant’s support team along with the DSM, the Associate Day Services Manager (ADSM), Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) Facilitator, individualized clinical support personnel, and other key support team members. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:The Day DSP will:1.Work in conjunction with DSM, ADSM , QIDP Facilitator and program participant to carry out each person’s (POMS, goals, person specific safeguards, supports and site specific safeguards as the documented Staff Action Plan (SAP) and other individualized, site specific plans. 2.Work in conjunction with DSM and other clinical supports (ABS, HSS, LPN, PT, OT, Clinic Counselors) in the site to create barrier free environments, rich with choices, meaningful activities, and with individual interests reflected in a therapeutic manner within a group setting.3.Directly support and preserve the dignity and well-being of each person in their daily routine; activities may include, but are not limited to, dining support, lifting, repositioning, assisting in ambulation, crisis/ safety assistance through physical intervention according to behavior plan, first aid, CPR, medication administration and transportation of participants. a.Directly guide, encourage, and support participants to improve, increase or maintain their skills in communication, mobility, physical fitness/health, volunteer opportunities, community inclusion, personal care, and in the use of their self-calming or coping strategies. b.Provide individualized levels of supervision as written within each participants’ individualized plans.4.The Day DSP must have a valid driver’s license. They will be responsible for the safe transport of program attendees during the day to/from outing activities. When requested, they will carryover support for the transportation- to and from home during key transit times as assigned. 5.Approach each person’s personal outcome measures (POMS/Goals) found in the Staff Action Plan, with creativity and encouragement for growth. Implementation, documentation and any other notations completed daily and timely through electronic documentation. 6.Maintain open communication with the DSM and QIDP by offering feedback for each person in regards to their personal goal progress, communicating any concerns/observations, and suggestions for new goal directions. 7.The Day DSP is a member of each person’s support team. Their feedback and observations are key factors to a person’s success. The DSP will communicate any person specific observations such as but not limited to, medical/health, day-to-day progress, behavioral/crisis updates to the program DSM, ADSM, QIDP Facilitator, clinical supports, and other key members of the team. 8.Have an affinity for working with people. Must have ability to understand and adjust their personal working/communication style to enhance/develop positive and mutually respectful relationships with individuals with intellectual, developmental disabilities, and co-occurring diagnoses. 9.The Day DSP must be able to support people safely in any area of their day-to-day needs. They must be able to complete and successfully pass initial training and certification (and subsequent re-certification as mandated) including, but not limited to, the following mandated areas: First Aid / CPR certification, Medication certification (AMAP), Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP)/SCIP-R training, and have a valid driver’s license for driving vans/metros. 10.Day DSP’s must be able to raise or lower an object (weighing up to 50 pounds) from one level to another, using hands, arms, and/or shoulders. Includes upward pulling.11.The Day DSP works alongside other Day DSPs in every day services program. In the event of inclement weather, extreme low census or programmatic need, the Day DSP may be temporarily, redeployed to another Day Program or an Individual Residential Alternative (IRA)/Residential) based on program needs. 12.The Day DSP will abide by the Code of Ethics for Direct Support Professionals within the structure of CWI’s policies and procedures.13.Actively cooperate with the President/CEO and other staff members in a joint endeavor in achieving the mission statement of CWI. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the CEO and Management Team. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Must be of good character, have a clean background, a clean driver’s license. Must have an affinity for working with people with-intellectual/developmental disabilities, and be capable of handling all the position responsibilities as outlined. Demonstrated competency in first aid/CPR safety procedures and medication administration. A high school diploma or CNA Certification considered a plus.
