Position Summary

HIGHLIGHTS

The SUNY Geneseo Facilities Department is looking for a reliable and dedicated individual to join our team as a Facility Operations Assistant 1. As a Facility Operations Assistant 1, you will assist skilled and semiskilled trades positions by performing duties that are part of the mechanical, building, motor equipment and electrical trades.

Some of these duties may include:

loading and unloading materials and tools

nailing, tightening bolts, driving screws, and other manual tasks

changing bulbs and tubes

mixing mortar and plaster

cleaning gutters and eaves

unplugging stoppages

threading and connecting pipes

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.

Function 1: Equipment Operation

Operate hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment and measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the craft area to which assigned

Operate motor vehicles and power-driven equipment

Cut sheet metal and solder

Carry and place heavy items in work areas after work is performed

Disassemble motors and appliances and clean parts as directed

Test parts for operational failure and reassemble them

Inspect and lubricate motors and other related installations and report on their operating condition

Change bulbs and tubes

Replace fuses and switches

Assemble new furniture
