About the Centers & Institutes
The Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administrations Centers & Institutes (C&Is) provide a hub for students, faculty, and industry leaders to connect. There are six C&Is, including the Center for Hospitality Research, Center for Real Estate and Finance, Cornell Center for Innovative Hospitality Labor and Employment Relations, Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship, Cornell Institute for Food and Beverage Management, and Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures. Collectively, the C&Is are designed to promote industry growth and enrich the educational curriculum by providing opportunities for students to put their learning into practice and work directly with corporate members.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly organized and service-oriented Assistant to support multiple Centers & Institutes (C&Is) at Cornell University, including the Center for Hospitality Research, Center for Real Estate and Finance, Cornell Center for Innovative Hospitality Labor and Employment Relations, and Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while balancing the needs of various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-level administrative and programmatic support to assigned C&Is.
- Oversee reception duties and general administrative functions related to C&I operations.
- Coordinate logistical and programmatic aspects of C&I events, including room reservations, catering, and communications.
- Assist with marketing support and content management for C&I programs.
- Provide support for Pillsburys Entrepreneur in Residence program and the Center for Real Estate and Finances Real Estate Professionals program.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across campus, including External Relations, Marketing and Communications, Alumni Affairs & Development, eCornell, faculty, students, and other departments.
- Handle other administrative duties as assigned.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) endowed position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 3:2 campus-to-home hybrid work arrangement. This hybrid work arrangement is subject to change at any time. Typical work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Thursday, and 8am-3:30pm on Fridays.
What You Need
We are looking for a team member who is an excellent communicator, customer service oriented, and proficient at working independently while balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders. Additionally, you will:
- Hold an Associates degree and two (2) to four (4) years, of related experience or equivalent combination.
- Have the ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. Must be able to work nonstandard hours if needed.
- Have good written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Display positive customer service and professional demeanor (tact).
- Be proficient in a variety of computer-based software systems including, but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, and MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Utilize effective time Management (prioritization and deadline management), organization, self-leadership (motivation and direction), analytical (detail-oriented, problem-solving) skills
- Demonstrate Cornells Skills for Success
If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include:
- Bachelors Degree in Business or related field; Minimum six years related experience: Prior event planning experience and CMP (Certified Meeting Planner) certification; Knowledge of Cornell University systems; Proficiency in WordPress, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, InDesign, and MailChimp; Proficiency in survey software, such as Survey Monkey, Qualtrics, or other; Proficiency in database software, such as Salesforce or other.

- This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role
remotely 2 days per week and on-campus 3 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time. - This position is based in Ithaca, New York. Employees who work remotely may receive
multiple W-2 Forms depending on their work location. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholding for this position.
