UPMC Hamot is hiring a part-time Nursing Assistant to join the team on 6 South CT Surgery! 6 South is a 43-bed Medical/Surgical unit with 11 beds dedicated as Step Down to service higher acuity patients. We invite you to explore this opportunity today!
Hours: Evenings, shifts range from 11am-11pm or 3pm-11pm
Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities:
Provides direct patient care as directed by the RN, including activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating).
Maintains a safe and clean environment, including safety checks, cleaning rooms and equipment, changing linens, emptying linen hampers, and clearing hallways.
Acquires and distributes supplies and equipment, including messenger functions, ordering, charging/crediting supplies, setting up patient care equipment, and stocking rooms.
Delivers patient nourishments, fills water pitchers, and distributes mail.
Performs UPMC nursing core responsibilities: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care, and restraint application/removal.
Provides feedback to the RN and reports changes in patient status.
Receives and acts on feedback and direction constructively.
Identifies learning needs and takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.
Communicates effectively with the healthcare team.
Demonstrates understanding of cultural diversity and supports safety in the workplace.
Develops and maintains productive working relationships. Suggests and supports changes within the department.
Assumes responsibility for assignments and views problems as challenges.
Reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department. Establishes effective communication strategies and maintains professional interpersonal relationships.
Contributes to unit activities, including responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
Provides diversional activities to reduce or prevent the use of restraints. Documents in the medical record according to procedures and completes clerical tasks as needed.
Complies with safety policies, including standard precautions and bloodborne pathogen exposure protocols.
Strictly adheres to all patient care and hospital information policies. Responds to emergent situations within the scope of the nursing assistant role.
Provides one-on-one companionship or supervision for patients as required.
Performs duties in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent
Successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant or EIC training program
Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred
Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
