THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking a dedicated Geoscientist to protect the health and safety of Pennsylvanias citizens and environment. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Geoscientist, you will be tasked with assisting Senior Geoscientists with a wide range of research, planning, and coordination in the areas of detailed geologic mapping and stratigraphic framework studies. Work includes performing a variety of geologic field mapping duties with eventual focus on preparing geologic maps, reports, and conducting geologic research. You will have the opportunity to answer PNDI/Geoheritage program inquiries, coordinate geoheritage meetings, and update all geoheritage related documents. Additional responsibilities include:
Preparing reports to immediate needs
Coordinating project completion and publication processing
Evaluating data collect, computer data entry, and work progress rates
Providing technical assistance to other agencies, organizations and individuals
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as a Geoscience Trainee (commonwealth title); or
Possession of an active Geologist-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and one year of professional experience in geologic work; or
One year of professional geology experience, and a bachelors degree in geology, hydrogeology, geoscience, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework.
Special Requirements:
This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C drivers license or equivalent.
